A friend of mine, his Panasonic Plasma Th-50xxx, I forgot the rest of the model. The top half of the screen went dark/blackout after a few minutes of use. What caused this or the TV is screwed? Thanks..

I don't know, but return it for a replacement ASAP.

Why the superceded line? It better have been extremely discounted, because the '09 G12 panels are better values, and the G13 are just right around the corner.

Oh. I presume you guys have tried different inputs & sources. If this terrible issue still exists, it's something with processing, maybe something like a bad motherboard or something (edumacated guessing). In such case, the parts are usually very expensive, and it's likely time for a new display. Which totally sucks. But, he/she will have a better TV for similar money.

Of course, there's always the extended warranty route, but to me it's not worth it. The odds of Pana plasma failure are low enough where it doesn't make sense to me. I'm sorry, let us know what you guys find out.

If you guys will choose to buy a new display, I'd personally wait for the '10 models to come out for a couple of reasons.

If you guys have Costco around you, they have generally been phenomenal with exchanges within their policy. I think it's something like 2 years, or 1 year extended for free, not quite sure, but I've seen it happen in person. Of course you need to know someone who has a membership.

Usually in these cases panels are damaged. Well if you take my advice try to sell the current device at cheap rates and get a new one.
