Placement of speakers for comparison

I plan to compare the Paradigm S2's to the Salk SongTowers and would like to know how best to minimize any placement factors.
While I have speaker stands for the S2's, I am leaning towards placing the S2's on top of the SongTowers (with MoPads under the S2's). This would place all of the drivers along the same vertical axis. With the mopads, I can angle the S2's downward a bit to compensate for being a foot or so too high.

One thing to consider is the fact that if you can feel the cones of the second pair moving, you're losing acoustical energy from the ones that are playing. While it's nice to be able to switch between them quickly, the pair of speakers not playing is affecting the sound you hear.
