just wanted to cap this thread with a "mission accomplished" - thanks to everyone who helped me with this. (especially to jcPanny)

used a Harman Kardon 3480, Rotel RMB1066, car speakers i put in an enclosure

6 pairs of JBL soundpoint speakers

Sonance Impedance Matchiing VC's

i used an old CRT PC monitor as a display connected using a tv tuner (which i forgot to take a picture of)

i bought most of this stuff over 2 years ago ... and i've only just run them all at once last saturday.

i burned my jazz/classical mp3's into one disc to have an endless cycle of music anywhere in the house :) (public areas that is)

New speakers

Enjoy the new speakers. I find that I spend a significant amount of time listen to the background music in the kitchen, garage, bedroom, etc. so it is a great extension of the sound system.

The JBLs look pretty beefy. Report back on their performance.

P.S. Next project idea. Wire up one of your "extra" subwoofers to the distributed audio system in each of the rooms.
