Are there particular features that you are wanting to have in a receiver? It's difficult to help you (outside of brand preference) without knowing some more about what you want.

i want the best bang for my buck under $600. Other than that I'm not really sure what to look for apart from the best sound with music and movies. Not really sure what else to look for as they all seem to do about the same things in that price range as far as I know. Just which one does it all the best.

I would look into the Denon 2310 and Onkyo 707 as alternatives as they both have great amp sections and include the Audyssey MultEQ suite.

A. Dolby Volume
Dynamic range control DSP mode along with tonal balancing.
B. iPod HD Video Capable
When used with the optional Bridge III, the 2600 can play back HD video (720p) from an iPod, for example an HD movie downloaded from iTunes.
