Ok, I just ordered my pioneer VSX-82TXS and I have some questions.
I currently have a cable box that does not have HDMI output but has component outputs. When I run these components to the reciever will the reciever upscale the pix from 480i up to a better resolution with no problems. Or should I get a new cable box with HDMI outputs ???? Whats the best route to go ??
And will the reciever have no problem taking 480i,720i and 1080i and upscale them to 720p..How does the upscaling work. Does it take a 480i pix and upscale to 1080i ???

Yes, you can run component and it will work fine. I use the upscaling on the 82 for SD channels only and it does a decent job. I use the "pure" setting for HD channels. As for how this works, someone with more technical knowledge will have to help there.
Enjoy the new rec., I'm loving mine. My local cable company just updated my SA8300HD STB and I can now use the HDMI through the 82:D looks and sounds fantastic.
