I'm a newbie and seriously considering a Pioneer Elite VSX-72THX receiver for a new HDTV entertainment setup. I was first attracted to it because of its HDMI switching and upconverions and wide array of I/O options (including phono input). But its apparent power flexibility for speaker setup options has really interested me and I woudl like to get some input from the forum.
I have a large and strange room geometry and I really like the idea of having all the automatic and manual options for speaker setup -- including a graphic equalizer for each speaker and the ability to store/recall up to 6 different configuations -- e.g., HT and music.
I have serached this forum for news about the 72 and found a couple of good references, but I'm wondering if anyone has "hands on" experience with it yet. If not "hands on" what do you think of it's specs and performanace "from what you have heard."
I'm also leaning heavily towards the BIC Acoustec speaker set, which is rated very highly (for the price) for HT, but not as strong for music. I'm thinking the flexible speaker setup options of the 72 will let me have different configurations that work well for either HT and music depending which one I select.
Any thoughts or opinions would be most welcomed.
