I just receiver the Pioneer VSX-1120-K receiver and already did the MCACC auto calibration. But I want to tweak & tune my speakers even more. This my first advanced receiver i've bought since a HTIB. So, i'm not really sure where to start. So any help would be appreciated, I am no audiophile.

My speaker setup:

Bic Venturi DV64 Towers
Bic DV52CLR Center
Polk RM8 Surrounds
Bic H-100 Subwoofer

Thanks

I'm not sure what problem you are trying to solve.

Basically speakers are sonically dominant and tend to be very much what they are.

If you don't like what you hear, it is generally new speaker time.

What i'm asking is, everybody just doesn't do an auto calibration like MCACC or Audyssey and leave it like that. What else do people adjust and play with in the settings until its to their liking? I like the way the speakers sound, just trying to get the best sound out of them.

Actually people do just that. Some rooms require acoustic treatment. All do actually, but in a lot of rooms, carpeting, drapes etc will take care of most of it. But there are always problem children.

Good speakers sound good and you can do next to nothing to improve poor ones. Fiddling with a lot of Eq just adds phase shifts and other problems.

It is far from unknown for auto Eq systems to do more harm than good.

You are over thinking all this. If it is to your liking leave it. If not go speaker shopping and look to potential room problems and placement issues.

Ok thanks. Its just i remember reading in a lot of forums that people didn't like what the auto calibrating would sound like when they were done. It does sound great tho, but I did mess with the equalizer, so i'll just run MCACC again. One problem I did notice when running MCACC, it would say my front left speaker was out of phase, so I checked my wiring and its correct, so I don't get that. Also, should I set my front floorstanding speakers to small or large, and what should i set the crossover to, right now I have it set to 80hz. Sorry for all these questions, but I really appreciate your help.

You had better check that left front speaker. There is almost certainly something wrong with it. It won't be the first speaker with a driver miss wired at the factory.

Your crossover should be probably be where Audyssey sets it, but the range is usually 60 to 80 Hz depending on circumstances. That is something you can play with.

Well i checked the wiring inside the left front speaker and compared it with the wiring in the right front and it seemed the same. So i swapped the speakers and double checked the wiring to the receiver again, and ran MCACC again, and everything went fine this time. I'm gonna leave all the EQ settings at their current settings.

I'm happy with how it sounds for now, but I think I might upgrade the BIC DV64 floorstanding speakers, they just don't sound that great with music in my opinion.
