New receiver.

Trying to connect Cable box to receiver:
1. Using Red, White and Yellow RCA jacks to receiver works (poor quality)
2. Using HDMI to reciever - intermittent sound -- no picture
3. Digital Optical - sound works -- no picture

My monitor (Pioneer Pro-1000HD) does not have HDMI so that is connected with component video (RBG) to the receiver.

I changed paramters using the on screen menu as indicated for each in the manual.

My monitor gives me great detail when connected directly to the cable box but hope to get the same using the receiver so I can easily swtich to DVD player which also seems to work great using the RBG from the receiver.

Welcome to the forum!

The 1019 (or any receiver that I know of) will not convert an HDMI video input into any other type of video output. So, you won't be able to use the HDMI video until you have a TV that can use it.

You can certainly use the digital optical audio connection between the cable box and the 1019 regardless of how you have the video connected - so go ahead and do that. You'll just need to assign that audio input to a source selection, but you've probably done that given that you know it works.

Does the cable box have component video outputs? What type of video connection were you using to get a good picture when you had the cable box connected directly to the monitor?

Got it on the HDMI connection from the cable box.

Yes -- got the optical set as input but thought that would also do video?

The cable box does hav Red/Blue Green connections which produces a great picture on the Plazma when connected directly to the monitor. Those same connections to the Receiver DVD R/B/G connectors do not produce the same results -- also using the component video to the monitor from the receiver.

Nope, that's just an audio connection. That's one of the advantages to HDMI - it carries digital audio and video in one cable.

Gotcha. That wasn't one of the methods that you listed in your first post. Component video (three video cables) will give a better picture than the composite video (single cable) connection that you mentioned in your first post. When the component video is connected from the cable box to the receiver, then from the receiver to the monitor, did you turn off any video processing on the 1019 (if you can)?
