I have a pioneer VSX-1016TXV receiver with psb image series speakers t45, c40 and b15's.
Maybe by next year i might look at upgrading my receiver, in order to get some hd audio action going.

Just wondering, the way I have my setup right now, is my receiver good enough or powerful enough for the speakers I have?

I have the same reciever doing HT duty. I run Infinity Primus speakers (8 ohm) and the Pioneer gets fairly warm after a long movie. I see your PSB's are 6 ohm, so I'm guessing your reciever runs warmer than mine. If yours runs very hot or you get distortion at louder volumes, you might want to consider an external amp. If not, you should be fine with what you have.

actually the thing is im running them at 8ohms, should I be using 6?
If I remember correctly someone here had told me to go with 8 ohms, but I cant remember why.

If I remember correctly, the pioneer only has a choice of 4 or 8 ohms. You have it set right. Are you having any issues with overheating or distortion?

not that I have noticed, i will listen more carefully for that.
ill check it if it has the option for 6 ohms.
if it does, is it better to use 6?

If there is a 6 ohm setting, that would be what you want, but I'm pretty sure the pioneer only has 4 or 8 ohm setting. Sounds like it is working fine, so I wouldn't worry about it.

8 Ohm's is the correct setting!!!

Hi: From what I remember here in a thread a while ago if you set the switch to anything but 8 ohms it reduces the power going to your speaker's which you do not want as that will cause the receiver to reach its clipping point much quicker not good unless you are looking for a reason to up grade your speakers:D. Hope this helps

^ is correct. You do not want to change the setting. Changing the rail voltage will cause the amp to clip sooner.

2 more questions,

my receiver is under a 5 year warranty, so maybe this would be a good thing :D lol
they might give me a new one of the year (dts hd and dd true hd)
can it affect my speakers though?

lastly, i cant remember, is it displayed how many ohms are being used on the front display of the receiver?

thanks guys

It will not be displayed on the front of the unit. Ohms are not "used" by the speaker. It is a measure of the load they provide. The lower the load, the more current is needed to produce the equivalent intensity at a higher impedence. Power = current squared x Resistance. Speaker impedence changes with frequency. So while your speakers are rated at 6 ohms, they will dip lower than that for short periods of time depending on what is playing on them. None of this you really need to worry about unless your AVR is shutting down.

I have the same Pioneer receiver and loved it for the two or three years it was my home theater centerpiece. Never did I have any heating issues, but mine was always set to 8ohms. As a matter of fact I never had any issues with the Pioneer. I have recently "upgraded" to a Marantz SR6001, which to me sounds better but doesn't have as many bells and whistles. I miss the sound retriever and dialog enhancer although I haven't really needed them with the Marantz around.
By the way, how long (or how many posts?) do you have to wait until you can post something for sale here? I want to sell that Pioneer to help offset the cost of the Marantz I just picked up. I'm also thinking of selling my backup speakers (the dreaded cousins of the Cerwin Vega D-9's) the Cerwin Vega D-7's. Those speakers have been very faithful to me no matter what garbage I threw at them (mostly metal, but that's what they were made for, right?).

How do you turn on the dialog enhancer?
Yeah, if I upgrade its gonna either be a marantz or pioneer elite. not sure yet.

the sound diff with you're new receiver, is it a big diff?

You need 25 posts before you can list anything in the classifieds.

1st question - The only way I could use the Dialog Enhancer was by using the remote (the 7 key is the dialog e key for the reciever). I don't think you can do any dialog enhancement with just the unit. The wife loved this key but hasn't needed it with the Marantz....yet!

2nd question - Big diff is subjective. To me music is more important than movies and the Marantz has a richer sound than the Pioneer does (to my ears). The Pioneer may have had a bit more shock value when it came to explosions in movies (opening scene in Lost In Space DVD is my reference). The 1016 was basically a Pioneer Elite "lite" when it came out. I have had a good time with it but it's time to let the beast enjoy another home and make someone else happy.
