I bought this online for 370.00 plus shipping and it came to a total of 393.00 shipped. As far as the THD% Its actually the same as the Elite 52tx. If you look at the manual, you will see the 1015 at the lower rated watts of the 52 is actually .09 at 110 watts. With the bump up to 120 watts it does add more THD.
The 1015 and 52tx are rated the same output at .09 THD because they both use the same amplifier. The 52tx would also rate at 120 watts/channel at the higher thd used to advertise the 1015. Heck you could probably say they both will put out 160 watts/channel at 30% thd if you wanted.

They did not bump up anything with the amp in the 1015, they just allowed more thd in the measurement of the output so they could advertise 120 watts/channel instead of 110.

Regardless of any kind of games Pioneer plays when rating the amp on this unit it is a fantastic piece of gear for its price range. As long as you are not trying to drive low ohm speakers it will do a great job.

Actually the manual states 150 watts continuous power on all 7 channels at 1.0%THD with a 6 ohm speaker setup.....

I have the 52tx and I looked at the 1014tx too. The 1014 is lighter and looks cheaper. The 52tx has copper screws, i dont know if the 1014 does, but 1014 basically looks like a 300 dollar reciever.

I got my 52tx 8 months ago for 500, so it was a good deal. You get the premium look, the better warranty, and a few extras.

The 52tx is good if you want to keep a premium look to your system. In retrospect, i perhaps should have bought a 56tx or something, but at the time I didnt know the difference, and in all honesty, i doubt i'd hear a difference today.

I can agree with you there. I have the 54TX and I stopped to check out the 1015 a few weeks ago. The 1015 (or even 1014 for that matter) has a chunky flip down face panel - not nearly as slim as the offerings of the Elite. Plus, the volume knob didn't feel as smooth to turn as the Elite. If you want a good, solid receiver, go for the Elite. If you want a receiver that performs quite well, and the looks and feel are not as important, go for the non-Elite versions.

I'm sure at lower or normal levels, you'd be hard-pressed to hear a difference in sound. As the volume increases, the bigger caps in the 56TXi will play a bigger part with performance. Then again, the caps in the 1015 are probably bigger (I'd have to check) than the caps in the Yamaha RX-V4600.

The 1014 and 52tx are practically the same unit. The 1014 is not lighter. They both weigh 34 lbs. The 1014 has copper screws. Please read the first page of this post for a list of differences. Buckeyefan was even told as much by Pioneer via email.

The elite line does have a shiny black finish and the 1014 does not. The Elite line does have a large gold "Elite" label on the front and the 1014 does not. Some people really like the looks of the Elite units, I personally care more about the sound reproduction capabilities. I could care less if the unit looks like a 50 dollar receiver as long as it sounds like a 500 dollar one.

The 9300TX has the copper screws the piano black front finish and the lower profile front control panel lid(but the lid's not made of aluminum like the Elites).

Quick question does the 1015 have bass management? What are the crossover settings available? thanks

It's THX certified so you know that at least 80Hz is available.

Just bought the 1015tx yesterday and all I can say is WOW, I'm astonished at the power and sound quality coming from this entry level priced receiver. I looked at the 52tx as well and for the $250 dollars more I just couldnt justify it, especially when I emailed Pioneer and said that the majority of the features and components are exactly the same. From what I've been able to read up on the 1015tx, is "kind of" a newer model. It has the newer THX certification, and included 3 component inputs. The for the price and the extra component input made this decision easy for me.

Spiff - congrats on the purchase. Sounds like you got a nice deal. Now the "tweaking" begins. ;) I was going to say, that's not an entry level receiver. It's Pioneer's flagship model under the Elite line, but you boldly stated "priced," so you're off the hook. Sometimes it's worth paying a little extra for that peace of mind in knowing there's not any shipping issues (delays/dropped boxes/etc...). I was in CC yesterday helping the folks with a new tv purchase (they live in NE Ohio - always have to kill two birds with one stone. The SVS visit was the other stone). Went over to the receivers, and had to lift the Onkyo's as well as HK's. I am not impressed with the weight on the Onkyo's until you get into the 801 series and up. The HK235 was pretty beefy. The HK635 was immense. Like I always say, 33lbs is the benchmark in my book for a very good unit. Your 1015 is right there, along with the big boys.
