Pioneer versus Denon

i know thats recievers shouldn't sound different, but like I said subjectively head to head they did, from what I understood they were all level matched and running in direct mode. I wish someone would do an objective comparison of all of these recievers since they are in the same price bracket...sound and vision has looked at most of these, but after reading many of their reviews apparently they love everything they review so thats not particularly helpful!

Units in the same price range are similiar, and come down to little differences and personal preferences. Someone will say that onkyo has more power for the money, while pio elite has better video, as yamaha sounds better with music as anyone elses unit has a feature someone prefers. One thing that i always consider what makes me happy in the end.

I don't find it surprising at all that receivers sound different.

In back-to-back tests with same testing equipment, same source and same listening room, differences are much easier to hear, especially if you are sampling them back and forth through an A/B switch. The speakers you use for testing also make a difference, in some cases masking or exaggerating certain tendencies in the receivers. But the differences can be interpretted differently based on personal preferences.

They don't sound different, a double blind test will confirm this.

So true. That's why we need to use bias controlled objective listening tests. Subjective tests are, well, subjective.

Thanks for all the advice. After doing some more research and reading your great postings...I will be picking up the Denon 2808. I just don't need all the feature set for my HT needs and I will be able to save on $$.

I certainly understand your points on matching the ML center and surr. with the fronts...certainly makes sense. Will just need to save up a bit more for those speakers. Hopefully, come NFL 2008, I will be ready with a full set of MLs and the Denon.
