Pioneer to Exit Flat Panel Market

The questions is are they going to continue to manufacture KURO plasma up until March 2010? Or are they just going to let the current stock sell out ?

tn001d ^^ Pioneer has left one factory open in Japan that will continue to manufacture PRO-111FDs and PRO-151FD only. Supply will be very limited and deliveries to the US will not be on any particular schedule.

Pioneer had operated with regional assembly facilities in CA, Europe and Asia and now they are going to just keep one Japanese plant open. I expect we'll see very limited supplies or 111s and 151s till August '09.

Currently all models are very constrained.

The Pioneer site says they will discontinue production in March for Japan and Apr for US.

They will still be making the PDP-5020FD and 60's until April in the US check out their website.

jcilforever ^^ Actually the Pomona CA assembly facility closes on 3/31/09, but one remaining Kuro panel factory in Japan will stay open till 4/30/09. The last Kuro panel factory will ship Elite only panels in very limited supply to the entire worldwide distribution till around July or possible August '09 at the latest.

So we can expect to see very limited supply of Eltie only panels till late summer '09. Their will be no panels in April, followed by very limited allocations in May, June and July.

Standard Pioneer branded panels are no longer in production and Pioneer and their distributors have none left in their inventory. Elite models are very constrained but a small supply will trickel till to select authorized retailers till July.

Im really egar to see how this is going to play out...prices are either going to drop drasticly, or go up...I can see them going up, because of the sheer demand for these sets...

I have herd people that don't know the difference between plasma, LCD or even CRT lol..But you can bet your last dollar they know "KURO" means black and its made by Pioneer.

It's sad to see a company with such a long solid run have problems. Hopefully they are dropping Plasma in favor of something grander that they have yet to unveil. I'm sure their R&D has been working on something, they've not come out with anything that really shouts change in the A/V world in a while. Might be a time to invest, or it might be a time to get out....who knows?, only the companies largest investors.

I cannot comment with any authority regarding whether posting dealer prices is against the rules, but I am also a reader of AVSforum so I understand where you are coming from.

I haven't heard anything specifically stating no dealer price listing on Audioholics, but I know yourself as well as Gene / Clint and company have a professional image/rep to think of so I think it's best that an Audioholics representative make that judgment call.

At any rate, I am looking forward to your continued Audioholics postings.
