Pioneer sx-780 vs Harman Kardon 430

I'm finally getting serious about setting up a good beginner vintage system...

Question #1
Receiver: I have a Pioneer sx-780 i picked up for $135. It's in great shape but I now have a chance to pick up a Harmon Kardon 430 for about the same price, maybe less. What are people's thoughts on comparing the two? I'd likely have to sell the pioneer if i picked up the HK. I love the Pioneer -- especially the silver front and the lit up dials, but I've heard/read great things about the HK 430 sound (but never heard one in person). Any advice?

Question #2
Speakers: I'm currently running the pioneer through a pair of Sony SS U45 speakers I got for free. (FYI -- I also have a Pro-ject Debut III turntable on the way, just so you know what else I'll be running through the Pioneer). The U45s are adequate for the time being but I'll be looking to upgrade somewhere down the road. What are some good budget speakers to pair with the Pioneer (assuming I keep it) or the Harman Kardon (if i get it)?

Thanks for any info!
