Pioneer SX-780 Overload, I think.

I have one of those cool pioneer receivers from the 70's and its in great shape. I was listening to GnR on a record the other day and I skipped it, and made the amp overload and shut off. Is this an easy fix? Its got no fuse, and says that I have no business being on the inside of this thing right on the back, so what do I do? Thanks.

Does it light up? If it's "Light's on, nobody home", it may still have a fuse. If it didn't take a few seconds and a click to turn on, it has fuses. Unplug it and remove the cover. I don't think I need to tell you that if it has blown fuses, replace only with the same value.

Where was the indicator on the volume control? Most receivers from that vintage hit rated power at about 1:00 on the control. The only reason it could go high is if the volume from one source is lower than another. If you need to turn it up that high, you need more power and that model doesn't have preamp outputs. It was rated at 45W/ch when it was fresh- don't expect miracles. The good thing- if the outputs are shot, they're still available and they're not expensive. If it needs to be repaired, the person should have a service manual to go by.

Ive got a 1970's style pioneer receiver that was apparently overloaded and shut down after listening to a GnR record that I accidently skipped. What happened? What can I do to play some more "Welcome to the Jungle"? Thanks guys.

Well, Its lights out and nobody's home. So I assumed something to do with the power. The volume wasnt too high. Ive just got some bookshelf speakers and a sub wired through the speaker wire. It does in fact have 45w, but again the volume was moderate, and the skip sound from the record killed it. Hopefully its not a big deal cause I see myself doing it again. haha. Thanks for helping me out though.

I'd bypass the sub and go direct to the speakers before anything else. The volume may have been moderate but that skip wasn't. I sold a ton of those and they generally didn't have many problems at all.
