Recently I have noticed some discolouration in the top six inches of my TV. The effect is a band of pixelated purple. I have a Panasonic Hard drive, and a pace satelite reciever sitting directly on top of the Pioneer receiver which gets quite hot. I have been advised the discolouration could be due to interferance from one of the components getting too hot.

Any ideas?

.....because heat rises, somehow, put the component that gets the hottest on top, if stacking is in play....small pieces of painted wood used as spacers/support-piers, can aid in this effort....and, a small plastic fan from Wal-Mart running on low, blowing air, "between", two stacked components, will be more beneficial than what you might think, or so I have found.....

Is my plasma dead?

I started the thread below in January. Despite moving the equipment around I have seen the disclouration on and off for the last year.

My wife called me this morning to say that whilst watching the TV she heard a cracking sound like a small firework going off, and the TV went off and will now not come back on!

Any ideas?!!!!!

I just read there is a recall on certain power cords for the pioneer call the service department. I belive there was also a class action suit so they will probably be liable if there is permanant damage to you TV...the pop sound is what was described as symptoms of the bad power cord...at least on the west coast the service/warrenty dept. is closed until monday

found a link hope it works

Thanks for the information , you have got it bang on. From what I had read I suspected it might be the PSU. Great timing to lose the TV, just before Xmas. If I don't get it resolved real quick, my wife will make my life hell for the festive season!

Bad news but thanks anyway. Do you think that the faulty power unit could explain the discolouration as well?

If I lived in the US, I suspect things might be resolved simply, but I live in Tenerife in the Canary Islands, Spain, and I'm not hopeful.

I will get onto my supplier, if he's still around. Unfortunately I anticipate this being a rather lengthy process, which I firmly suspect will end with me buying a new plasma ( to placate my wife) whilst waiting a few months for the old one to be repaired if at all! Sounds drastic, but its 'par for the course here!'..........the service is simply not good.

On the bright side despite the write ups the PDP503HDE got at the time, I was never completely happy with the picture quality, especially through the satelite box. The set up with the external tuner was never ideal.

I just bought a Panasonic HI-Def Plasma for another property, and I can't believe the difference in picture quality for the price............I suppose three years is a long time in the world of this technology.

Thanks again.
