Pioneer elite vs. Yamaha

What are your guys' consensus on the Pioneer Elite models vs. the higher end Yamahas.

Specifically the Pioneer elite 55TXi and the 56TXi vs. the Yamaha v2500. In terms of sound clarity, open soundstage. I am not really looking for the latest bells and whistles, I am mainly concerned about sound quality. I read that the Pioneer elite receivers use MOSFET amps, so that should give them a warm, smooth sound.

And by the way, what is the difference between the 55TXi and the 56TXi anyways?

Yamaha's high end and even lower end amps have used MOSFET, I am not too sure about the 2400, however in the end, it is the speaker you hook up your receiver to and your ear and perceptions that has to make the final decision.

Do the current generation of Yamaha receivers still use MOSFET amps?

They are both good components.

That would depend on your speakers, room acoustics and the recording quality.

No, not at all. It depends on the design quality and is reflected by the specs.
But, both components will give you transparent sound out of the amps. Again, speakers, room acoustics and recording quality that matters.

I don't know what the new Pioneers sound like but I own a VSX-9300s and I have had it for 15 years and it has gobs of power and makes any well recorded LP or disc sound incredible. Excellent amp.
The new VSX-1014 and elite VSX-52 are similiar. Do they sound the same? Does anyone know? I am considering a new Pioneer amp or the new Harman Kardons 235 or 335. I like Yamahas too, but have enjoyed my Pioneers reliability and Power.
Opinions?

I have the 54tx. It is a very powerful amp and with my Axiom speakers, terrific sounding. I demod the Yamaha 5790 That amp was excellent also. Yamaha amps have more DSP's but the Pioneers clarity and simplicity were all I needed. The Macc setup worked extremely well. The 2500 Yammy looks like a great amp.Either choice will sound great IMHO. mtrycrafts analysis sounds good, I am less informed, only going on by what I heard. But it seems to me at this pricepoint Yammy, Denon,HK, Pioneer et al how can you go wrong?
