Pioneer Elite 92txh v. 01txh

So, I went to my local BB and because they just got the 01txh, 03txh, etc., they are putting the previous models on clearance. The guy said I could probably get the 92txh for around 800, and they are listing the 01txh at 850, but would price match at lteast pioneer at 750, maybe lower depending on the retailer.

So, which one would be better to go with? Anything about the 92txh that is that much better than the new 01txh? I tried to compare on Pioneer's site, but there wasn't much there.

I looked at the '92 when I was receiver shopping several months ago. I couldn't talk any one under $1200.
For $800, that a deal.

Hm, why does BB have the 01's at $850 when Pioneer's website and other places have it at $750? That kind of bugs me.
I started thinking that maybe I'd get the 01 too instead of the 1018 or HK 254, but now I'm curious about the 92 as well and what people think. Maybe I'll stop at BB tomorrow and see what they have. I think the 92 could be too big for my space though. If anyone has anyone other feedback on the comparison I'd like to hear it...

The link in my post doesnt work, but if you go to the website a compare models, the 92 is the way to go;)

Armaraas, how is the 92 to big for your space?

It's kind of hard to explain, but if the receiver is under 6 7/8" tall, it is fine. Otherwise, if it is up to 8" tall, it will fit as long as the top inch or so of the chasis is less than 17" deep (assuming knobs and connections in the back are not that close to the top). I have a shelf that has a support bar in the front and back, so essentially it would have to fit under them or between them.

Hope that makes sense.
I stopped at Best Buy to see what they have. I did not find a 92 there, may have to look again there was a shelf I didn't get a close look at. However, they had a Yamaha 3800 for $1099. That seems really tempting at that price and being able to finance it for 2 years...anyway, the guy I talked to there kept pushing the new pioneers over everything- the older ones, HK, Denon, and even the Yamaha. However, he did just did have training last week on the new Pio's, so maybe that had something to do with it. Just seemed odd to me. Now I see there is 3800 thread I have to go read...

ps- looking to use a new receiver with a ps3 for multichannel pcm, I am assuming at this price point ($600-1000) most receivers are capable of that.

the pioneers have vented sides also helping in tight spaces.

Any idea if that depth is 18 1/16" for the chasis, or from the the front of the knobs to the end of the terminals on the back?

I went to another local Big Box retailer here, Ultimate Electronics. They had the 92 on clearance for $1200, actually it may have been $1300. They had the 01 for $899 and the 03 for $1200. Not sticking to close too the SRP of Pioneer. The guy there asked me if I need help, I asked him his thoughts on the Yam 3800 compared to the Elites, and he just said he's only owned the Yamaha so he couldn't really comment on the Pioneers.
Real helpful there buddy, and you're asking if I have questions why???
