Pioneer CS-801 Vintage

Does anyone know anything about these speakers? They appear to be from a time when Pioneer speakers where actually worth buying. I didn't find much about these speakers other than what other people had inquired about. All responses seemed to follow the same direction (bewilderment). Not one person seems to know exactly what they are, when they where made, and where they were available. I know these have 12" woofers, and that's about it.

They were made in the seventies as a cheap copy of speakers like the Altec Lansing Santiago.

I never thought those speakers were worth buying. They were definitely in the prevalent mold of the bore a hole in your "raucous squawker" speaker, so prevalent then.

I don't know any specifics about those speakers, but they seem to be along the same lines as my old Sansui 4 ways with 15" woofers. My Sansui also have nearly identical grills to those Pioneers. If you like the vintage gear and the price is right, just get them and enjoy them for what they are.

Do you have any detailed information about these speakers? I can get them for $75, what potential resale value might they have?

I don't know any specifics about those speakers, but they seem to be along the same lines as my old Sansui 4 ways with 15" woofers. My Sansui also have nearly identical grills to those Pioneers. If you like the vintage gear and the price is right, just get them and enjoy them for what they are.

Something I have never understood is why Sansui speakers from that period had those fins that face down over the tweeter?

The fins are supposed to be a diffuser for the horn tweeter. The small dial between the between the super-tweeter and mid is a high frequency db cut. To the left of that is an red overload warning light. They were pretty fancy for the time, 1984, and sounded pretty good until I blew a couple of drivers with an underpowered receiver.
