I have the AX5i amp and notice that it has component video input and output on the back panel. The manual says to connect your TV to the output and your DVD player to the input.

Can anyone tell me why you would put video through an audio amplifier?
I have the DVD player connected directly to the TV at the moment.

Is there any technical reasons why I should connect video through the amp

Thanks

It's meant for switching between multiple video sources. If you only have one source, then it's better to by-pass the amp to avoid degrading the signal.

Sure, you would put video through an audio amplifier to upgrade the signal to component if you weren't running at least component (r/g/b) to the tv itself - say composite(yellow) or S-video. I still run my dvd player through the receiver, as well as my digital cable box to avoid having multiple remotes. One remote is much easier, and does all the source switching for you. I even have the tv plugged into the switched outlet on my Denon 3805 so it comes on with the Denon (no need for a trigger). I've compared the signal's through the receiver, and directly to the tv. I've noticed no loss in picture quality.
