hey guys, i just got a new pioneer amp that decodes Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD.
I got it hook up to PS3 via HDMI, PS3 is set on PCM, but im just woundering why i cant choose different codecs while watching blurays. The only surround setting i can choose from is PCM. Thats what is says on the amp display.

Is PCM the best that i can use? Because when i watch digital cable or play games on ps3, i can choose dolbytrue hd, and other settings.

The PS3 is doing the processing and has to be sent as PCM. If you want to see which codecs are being used just hit the display button on the PS3 and it will show you.

I too wanted to see something a little more "fancy" on the display of my AVR so I changed the "name" of 'DVD' to Blu-Ray.

Hey thanks, so really, which is better, having my ps3 decode, or, having my pioneer amp decode??

In your case, letting the PS3 decode is the only option as it won't bitstream the new codecs so your AVR can do it.

They are the same so I wouldn't worry about it.
