Yea, it doesn't have a drop down door like it's great grandfather, the 1015TX.

Which isn't relevant to it's performance or function, only aesthetics.;):D

It features HDMI 1.3 with repeating architecture, so it will process the audio over HDMI. It also offers internal decoding for Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD if your Blu-ray or HD DVD (dead format) player cannot decode the formats internally.

It seems the Pioneer VSX-1018 might give the Yamahas in that price range a run for their money.

Sure like my 1015. I'm very reluctant to part with it for anything in the same price range as I paid for it ($600 3 yrs ago).

Pioneer is running a sale now on that with a promotion code they sent me you can get 30 percent off a 499 retail price on the VSZ-1017, THATS A GOOD DEAL, I dont need another receiver but I like my 94 so much im tempted .

The only thing that kills me about the VSX-1017 is the lack of audio processing over HDMI. There where plenty receivers released around that time that featured it, why did they skimp. It's good they went full throttle with the VSX-1018, I am anxious to see how it fairs against the Yamaha RX-V663/863.

So the vsx-1017 dosent pass audio threw the HDMI ? I havent really read all the specs yet. Even so I think thats a lot of bang for the buck, I think its like a 150 wpc 7.1 and only 1 cent for chipping : )

Hi. I am a total newbie in this and has been interested to get a new AVR. I am now down to comparing between yahama rx-v863 and pioneer vsx-1018AHK. Been reading all your postings and other yahama/pioneer related postings. Frankly the more I read, the tougher it gets. To all the pros, can you help this poor guy out? Both looks equally good. Any significant point that I should be looking out for?

Also I am being recommended AAD M Series 5.1 speaker set comprising M-5T, M-5C, M-10S, M-5X. Anybody has any experience with these?

Thanks in advance! :)
