This would be my first home theatre system. Was originally looking at the Onkyo 5300 htib, and really liked the price, just under $500 Plus don't want a blu-ray, already have one. Looking for a system with a receiver. Then i start looking a bit deeper and am leaning towards the Denon AVR-391. This seems like a great fit. The living room is aprox. 18x24, regular height ceiling. Will be using it for cable TV, movies, and music, rarely gaming. I'd like to use the IPOD with it, but thats another hundred bucks. I'm looking at this to be my main unit for say at least 5+years, but now i'm looking to get a 5.1 set of speakers with sub, for under $500. So basically, i'm willing to adjust my budget a bit for quality, even at the entry level. I'd rather have a tighter clean sounding system that has good sub sound. Not looking to rattle the windows here. 3-D not necessary, my LCD is not. I'm sure i can piece this together to get better quality and sound than the Onkyo htib system. Read some good stuff on Mirage Nanosat 5.1? Again, a bit pricy at aprox. $600, this would be my extreme max for speakers. Plus the room is kinda funky shaped and from what i've read, the placement of them isn't too critical due to some crazy spacial overlapping something or other. Read some good stuff on the Energy 5.1 system also, and nicely priced at $400. Really want to go surround sound right out of the gate and not start with a 2.1 setup. Wife would not be dealing if I try to convince her a year later that we need more speakers. Also, like to listen to AM/FM frequently, reggae shows on the weekends, so nice antenna pickup would be sweet.
Bottom line is i'm looking for some sound advice on this setup. Any comments and steering in the right direction is greatly appreciated. Thanks again.
