Picked up a Hafler DH-120

I just nabbed another amplifier. You know how I roll, no dubs, amplifiers.

One of the first things I do before I even power on a piece of used equipment is take it apart and make sure there is nothing horribly amiss inside the particular piece of gear and I also like to know what is going on under the hood. The DH-120 is considered to be a PA amplifier. They sold them manufactured or as kits to save the DIYer some cash.

Apparently the DH-120 uses a Mosfet configuration, so it shouldn't get unbearably hot running at higher levels of output. It has two output devices for each channel (class A/B). The power supply is decent in size as are the capacitors. I cannot verify the capacitor values as they are covered and I do not wish to remove them to find out. To total weight of the amplifier is 18 pounds, not bad for a little 60 watt per channel stereo amp.

It does what an amplifier should do, increase the output without adding distortion to the sound. It has variable level input so I can tailor it to work with my Teac headphone output for the time being.

I just had a cranked a few minutes ago, louder than I care to listen for extended periods. The front face plate with attached rack handles had to go. the amplifier looks much better without them on there.

It seems to be working perfectly and as it would new, not bad looking either with the rack handle and mount removed. Considering it was made in 1985 it looks quite simple and clean. For a small stereo rig this amp works great. It really works well with my very efficient BIC towers.:)

I may post pictures at a later date.

Nice pickup. I am going to be looking for a small amp for my zone 2 output if my new pre-pro ever shows up. Please post pics. Did you pick it up from your usual pawn dealer?

I pick stuff up from many pawn brokers in up to 6 different cities in a 100 mile radius.:D

I got this do-dad for $100, which is about even for someone wanting it for personal use and not resale. I can't say I am interested in resale at this point, but I will keep you in mind as I do have a tendacy to change my mind quite quickly.;)

Will post pics tomorrow possibly.
