I don't think they need to crack Lee to win the series, but I did believe before the series started that Lee's starts are absolute must wins for the Phillies. IMO, if they lost game 1, the series would have been extremely difficult to pull out. Lee is their man. Hamels' starts against the Dodgers were not representative of his previous dominance, so game 3 is particularly interesting to me. They bumped him down on the rotation since his home ERA is much better, of course all of you guys know that already I'm sure.Yeah they were making contact. Something they hadn't done all game. I realize Lee had over 100 pitches though and I think that's why. Still they will need to crack Lee to win the series. I don't see that happening.
Going over 100 pitches in the postseason is commonplace. Didn't Martinez go to about 130 or so with the sox? Was it the same game where Boone hit it out of left field?
In any case, Lee is too damn good. His changeup and curve are so nasty, and while I wasn't really paying specific attention to it, I wouldn't be surprised if the arm delivery was very similar between the two compared to most any other pitcher with those same weapons.
