Philharmonitors vs SVS Ultra Bookshelves

So I'm currently running Philharmonitors with an Sb-2000 driven off a Denon avr-x4000, I would like to complete the front sound stage with a centre channel, I'm thinking about replacing the whole lot with a SVS Ultra bookshelves and centre and moving my Phil's to a second two channel only system in another room. So my question is will the SVS Ultra's satisfy me coming from the Phils (they sound great BTW) or should I consider getting Salk to make me a centre channel to go with my Phil's?

Thanks for all your help

I can't comment on the SVS Ultra's, but have you checked with Dennis about buying a 3rd Philharmonitor to use for center?

I thought about it but I don't like the idea visually of having a monitor on its side, if I stay with the Phil's I would get a proper centre from Jim Salk, it would match the voicing, and look better visually to me.

I'm more wondering if i'd be disappointed with the Ultras, all I've heard about them has been good. I love my SVS sub. I also think the Phil's would shine running off a nice integrated in my other room. So i'm sort of weighing that too.

I would be inclined to keep the Philharmonitor in it's upright position, but if 17" is too tall, I guess you need something shorter or to lay it down.
Sorry, I have not heard the SVS speakers, so cannot help you with that.

Hopefully there is someone who has heard both that will come along.

You probably already know this, but SVS does provide shipping both ways, allowing a totally free audition!

As someone who owns the Phil 3's and the SVS monitors, I'd go with the center from Jim Salk. As long as you're not running into any SPL or excursion issues with the Phil's I'd stick with them.

Hi There's a matching MTM center for the Philharmonitors--same drivers, same sound. They haven't been available previously because of a shortage of the custom faceplate Fontek tweeters, but there is one unit available now if you're interested. Just e-mail me at info@philharmonicaudio.com
