According to the scale I looked at this morning we might already be there :D
Cue the Roland Emmerich (Day After Tomorrow, Independence Day, or basically any disaster porn movie) scene where people look at computer screens and drop their coffee mug in shock.

EDIT: It was the best I could come up with in a timely fashion. Couldn't find a coffee cup being dropped reaction shot. :D

Could you point out your favorite Beethoven's 9th recording in CD/SACD/DVD/BLU-RAY format? Would like to buy one to see how my R500 do with it.
I like the Daniel Barenboim DVD-A for the enveloping nature of multi channel play back… Swerd might know of a TLS recommended rendition…
A few years ago, TLS Guy told me about the Arkiv Music web site. You can search it in a variety of ways. I searched for Beethoven, and then the 9th symphony, where it listed 272 recordings to choose from. They also had their own recommendation, by the Minnesota Orchestra & Minnesota Chorale conducted by Osmo Vanska, which is what I got. It's a hybrid CD/SACD disc. TLS Guy who goes to hear them play, also recommends it.

I don't doubt that the version Alex mentioned is also good. It was DVD-A. I never had a SACD or DVD-A player and only wanted a standard CD. That was the only reason why I didn't get it. After I received the disc from Archiv, I realized it was a hybrid. So I felt kind of silly. But it is a very good recording, and I'm happy with it. There are plenty of CDs of the 9th, including this one, available on Amazon.

If you listen closely during the 3rd movement, you can hear TLS Guy blowing his nose ;).

Hah! Made an order for this SACD. Will be interesting to compare these. Osmo Vänskä is a Finnish conductor, I have heard hes name before but I think I havent listened anything from him yet.
