I have spent several weeks researching receivers finally decided on either a YAMAHA 663 or 661.
But all of a sudden SWMBO has decided NO WIRES trailing around the lounge room, believe me this could develop into WW3 proportions.
This leaves me with two options Wireless rears which probably rules out the YAMAHA'S or 3 only front speakers. I already have a sub from a previous Yamaha setup
any suggestion on either option would be appreciated, you could save a marriage!:(

option 1
surrounds are there just for effects, having a good front 3 speaker + sub setup is way better than WW3 :)

option 2
flat speaker wires (paintable too)

There is trully no way to hide the wire? Flat wire, behind baseboard, through the wall or ceiling? I agree that the front speakers are much more important. On occassion I find myself putting my ear up to my surrounds to check they are even on.

Thanks Guys, I have explored all possibilities, there is no option that is acceptable.
Looking on the bright side I should be able to purchase better quality speakers if I am limited to the three fronts.
The dealer was trying to steer me into the YAHAMA NS-125FB or NS-AP7800.
Are there no Wireless speakers that operate like some wireless headphones i.e plugging a sensor into the headphone jack?.
The 663 has bluetooth capability is that a possibility now or in the future?

There is the Audioengine W1 (AW1) Premium Wireless Audio Adapter and powered speakers (or amp with speakers or other active speakers) that may work depending on if you have an outlet nearby the speakers. It is CD quality sound that is wireless. This comes to mind first but there are other alternatives.

I'm with Mike on this one. While there is no question that surround channels add the to experience, the experience isn't too bad without them. I'm lucky enough to have a second small "home theater" in my bedroom.

When Sunday night football is on, I don't get into fight with my wife about watching it on TV. I just go upstairs and watch it there. It is fine even with those tiny speakers and a tiny subwoofer. Yes, I watch movies on the bedroom TV all the time from satellite feeds. Unless it is some kind of sonic spectacular, I get as much enjoyment in the small bedroom system as I do on the big one. Three channels is almost as good as five and two isn't all that bad.

Kenwood RFU-6100. Brother-in-law lived in an apartment with no way to get wires to the rear. Not audiophile quality by any means, but it worked as advertised.

First off, I have to know what SWMBO stands for...

Second, cut the carpet and run the wires underneath, rent a heat gun from home depot/Lowes get carpet adhesive strips and repair the nice neat line you cut to hide the speaker wires.
Get speaker stands with integrated wire management so the only place you see the wires is when they go into the back of the speakers.

Problem solved.

"She Who Must Be Obeyed," I believe. :)

[Google is a wonderful thing. :D]

EDIT: For the OP, I mentioned a couple of wireless systems in a thread here. As has been mentioned, there are a few different options out there for wireless systems (some with built in amps, some without). These are just two others.

Nobody's mentioned this one yet: instead of traditional theater seating, get bar stools so during action scenes you can spin around real fast and it will sound like the sound is coming from everywhere!!!

Damn I should start my own business!

Make sure to hold a dumbbell in each hand. That way you can increase or decrease the speed at which you turn (moment of inertia) just like figure skaters.

Need a business partner?!

I think that they just modify the distance between their hands and their bodies (extend or retract their arms). I've never noticed them holding dumbbells in the Olympics. :)

Besides, if you did need extra weight, that's just another excuse to SWMBO for holding a bottle of beer. :D

Everything I have ever read about wireless speakers leads me to believe that they have shortcomings. The one pair that I heard flat out sucked. I don't know what they were and it was a long time ago.

My approach to any kind of resistance to what I want to do with H/T may not be the most mature response but it works for me. It goes something like this:

"If I can't do what I think is best with out a fight then I'm not going to do anything with it. Good luck with the remote." :p

Seriously, figuring this stuff out and making it right is hard for me but I enjoy music and movies. However I am unable to enjoy anything if I'm arguing or if an already difficult task is being made harder by hen pecking so writing off the whole kit and kaboodle is no loss at that point.

What's the point of fighting and being unhappy when you can just be unhappy? :)

Ask your "SWMBO" if you can have your balls back from inside her purse.

Cheers,

Phil
