perfect balance of quality/quantity?

Hey guys, new to the forum. I apologize if this question isn't in the appropriate area, and also because it calls for a degree of speculation.

Basically, what I'm looking to find is, the perfect balance between intense high volume, and quality. I'm remodeling a basement, and looking to put a system in that will be used primarily for rock concert dvds (zep, floyd, etc..)

Originally, I was looking at powered PA equipment, (QSC K series) but have been told that it will lack quality (and will be a bit more volume than we need)
I don't listen to classical, and I'm not hyper critical (probably nowhere NEAR as refined as many of you) but I do know HARSH when I hear it, so I'm looking to move away from REALLY LOUD/low quality to Pretty Damn Loud/Pretty Good Quality.

We'll be sitting approx. 15 feet from the TV/speakers, budget is under 10k.

Any suggestions/best guesses? Any guidance will be greatly appreciated!

BTW, they are not harsh ;).

...The TV is an 82"...
Mitsubishi DLP 82"?:D

Nice. I should have gotten one of those 82" instead of the 73".:D

Try to audition as many speakers as possible.

I've owned NHT & Definitive Technology speakers, so I can highly recommend both.

I like my DefTech BP7000SC A LOT.:D

But, you gotta listen for yourself.:)

Id suggest if you want some really nice speaker without paying too much Focal Chorus 826Ws or Totem Hawks make excellent speakers and will provied excellent range and sound stage, detail is very good.

Monitor Audio has great dynamics, but I find them a touch bright, however they aren't overly bright and the RX8s would make fantastic speakers for HT and Music.

Dynaudio or Dali would have some great setups in that price range too. The Dynaudio Focus 220s or the Dali Mentors or Lektors if you don't want a ribbon tweeter due to its slightly airy presentation.

As it was said tho, you should really get out and listen to A LOT of speakers, however all of those would be on my list if I were you. Plus more.

Sitting 15 feet back means you have a large space to fill, so my suggestion is to start out with multiple subs (either ID or DIY) and I would go with 4 (one in each corner) to fill the space with room filling (and feeling) bass. I would then look at highly efficient speakers like DefTech or Klipsch for the upper frequency range. By going with four great subs, you can get by with seven great bookshelf speakers. I would look at Mackie HR824's they are powered bookshelfs and extremely neutral and loud and will fill in that room nicely. So you would have the best of both worlds, great upper sound and great lower sound and you could do all this for about 5-7K (depending on the subs) you choose.
