It is a 7.1 system. On SACD though the surrounds are supposed to be in the rear corners of the room. So for SACD the surrounds are silent and the rear information is supplied by those big lines.

Again comb filtering is not an issue with the centers, because the step/diffraction loss starts at 1/3 wave length of the effective diameter of the drivers. I placed the speakers vertically because they look better that way I think, and it is much easier to slope a front panel. As I pointed out the tweeter of the upper unit is not used, and there is no mid range in the upper unit, otherwise we would have severe comb filtering response irregularities.

You have the amp assignment correct. Thank you for you interest in this unusual system. However in professional circles it is now also unusual, which in my view it should not be. I doubt those fancy systems you see in Hollywood are in the ball park, at least for accuracy. They might give the listeners a shorter half life to deafness though.

One question, for all of that setup, it seems you forgo the standard listening room. You both have windows and the walls do not look treated. Of course, thats probably the intent.

Anything special about the room other than the speakers and equipment?

I listen to a lot of opera. Opera is slowly starting to appear on Blue Ray disc. I have a Rotel preamp processor that is two years old. Rotel tell me they will have a preamp with HDMI 1.3 switching and the ability to decode Dolby True HD sometime this fall. That might make me get into Blue Ray disc.

As far as the room, it is deigned as a pleasant space for working and listening. I have been relegated to the basement for 32 years. Since moving this equipment to Benedict, I wanted views. Two of the windows look onto the Paul Bunyan State Forrest. The looks onto Benedict lake.

Now this is also a work space for archiving and post production. The blinds keep out the light when needed, but the TV is mainly in use after dark.

The room has dimensions that minimize bass standing waves. The floor has wool carpet. The mains have the vertical MTM arrangement which minimizes vertical dispersion. There is a lot of irregularity on the side walls which makes for random reflection. I listen pretty much exclusively to classical music, and I do not like an over dead room. The room is tending towards being too dead, it's right on the edge anyway, and I would not want to deaden it further.

I have to say I really love this space in every way.
