Greetings,

My Creative Zen 8gb is starting to give me troubles. Every time I dock it with my computer, it will connect, drop out, connect, endlessly every 30 seconds or so. This means, I don't really have enough time to add files to it before it's lost all detection.

I have a warranty on it (it's portable) and have had to use one on an MP3 player in the past (Creative Zen Micro). However, they no longer stock my Creative player, or any creative player for that matter. This is good, because I am finally going to make the leap to an Ipod, simply because I want to be able to dock it to everything, even my beard trimmer (which got a big workout today, stupid Canucks).

My main question is, will I be able to get a new one even though the player does function properly when being used as an MP3 player? A friend recently sent his creative in and had to mail it somewhere (they didn't do it at the store) but it was legitimately broken (pumped 45 volts through it, wanted an Ipod).

Experience? Pointers? All welcome.

I would think that they do warranty claims on those MP3 players in about the same way they do a cellular phone.

Assuming correctly, go onto their website and start a claim. Let them know that the device refuses to stay connected to your PC. Maybe you just need a new USB cable? (I have three iPod cables, and one of them makes my iPod connect / disconnect over and over, so I tossed it)

Even if they don't make the device anymore, they may be able to replace it under warranty if they have a stockpile of them in a warehouse somewhere (that's what they do with phones, for example... nobody can buy that model anymore, but they can still get a new one from warranty/insurance)

What kind of iPod were you thinking of getting?

I love the touch's features, but I opted instead for the Classic as it's about the same price for 120GB of space :D

The cable is fine, I use the same one for my camera. USB port is the same too.

My friend didn't get another creative unit, they gave him a gift card equivalent to the value of the player when purchased.

I want a Nano, because I've never needed that much space, and I won't have to put in any extra money. The size is also nice.

What are you looking at doing with the Nano?
If you are going strictly for music... I might suggest you Amazon an iPod Mini... their a little bigger than the Nanos... but they are super sturdy - I used to have one, dropped it a few times... dinged the case a bit but it kept on going! A friend of mine had a Nano and they seemed to be so delicate! You would be saving about a hundred bucks, as they iPod Minis can be found new/refurbished pretty cheap on Amazon or eBay... just a suggestion though!
I'm all about the retro iPod's lol - I want an iPod 1st Gen (5GB) and a new-in-box is going for around 500$ nowadays.

I talked with the people at FS. Turns out I have to phone some number and mail the player out in a box sent to me by Fedex. Doing this gives me a gift certificate equal to my players purchase price. No good on amazon.

Since FS is the same company as BB, I'm taking some of this on assumption, but this is how the small portable device protection plan goes there. You should be able to take it in to any FS. Describe your problem and they will check it out. If they find that this problem is true and they can't fix it there in the store while you wait, they will give you your original purchase price on a store credit voucher, good towards the purchase of anything, it doesn't even have to be a replacement for what was broken. I don't know if FS has Geek Squad in stores, though, so that may be a difference. Hope this helps.

I already talked to them. I wish it was all done in store. I have to phone some number and ship it out. I then receive a gift card/ certificate in the mail. It's a 24/7 number though, so I think I'll do it at 4:00am.
