"Peaking Out" During Movies/Games

Seriously, I have no life.
Tried running in "pure direct" mode; no change.
Please try and run in pure analog mode through your receiver, I think this will isolate your problem. In other words, is this an analog circuit problem or a digital one? How old is your receiver and is it still under warranty? You have a very unusual problem.

Hey guys.

Another thought: I'm also using my 360 as my CD player. When I play CDs (which don't have the same "peaking out"), the display on the receiver still shows the signal as being Dolby Digital. Also, the input is the same as when watching DVDs (optical), since the player is the same. Would this rule out the processor, then, since the processor seems able to do CDs fine but not DVDs?

Can't run things through the all-analogue method, as I have no SACD player. The receiver is just over a month old. Bought it from Audioholics!

Your receiver has EXT analog inputs.

This cable came with your 360.

For test purposes connect the analog left and right to the 8 analog input in turn, and see if any inputs clip out.

One other thing, that receiver is loaded up with so many features you don't need, that it is easy to make a mistake. One of the things it has is a Dynamic enhancer for digitally compressed music, such as AC3 on DVD's. Make sure that is turned OFF.

If it does not clip on any of the analog inputs and the Dynamic enhancer is turned off, then return the unit.

You might try using the X-box as the DVD player instead of your other player to see if you can further isolate the problem.

The Xbox is my DVD player. It's my CD/DVD/Videogame player, and my only source. This is why I find it odd that it's able to make music (via Dolby Digital) sound so good, but not movies.

Will try the analogue thing later and let you know what I've come up with.
