PC to Stereo?

Hi,

I've been having problems with my PC to stereo connection. I just have a headphone to RCA adapter between the PC and my Kenwood 2 channel reciever.
It used to work just fine but now when i connect, i get a low hum from the speakers. It must be some sort of interference, i checked the cables and they're fine. I tried using different cables as well. I also tried it hooked up to my sony str-dg800 to the same effect. Anybody have an idea of what to try to fix the problem? Headphones work fine connected to the same jack...what am i missing here?

Do you have a dedicated sound card, or do you have an integrated sound card? First thing that I would do is to make sure all the drivers are updated.

If that doesn't work, I'm not too sure what else I can recommend.
