PC to Projector questions....

Hello,

I've been reading this forum for awhile but this is my first post. I just wanted to thank you folks for all of the awesome information!!

I recently purchased a Panasonic PT AE900U projector and love it! Before my projector purchase I was watching movies on my laptop so this is a great upgrade!

I have been using a extra pc to feed video to my projector. I'm using a standard vga cable from the pc's video port. The video card is a generic nvida.

My question is I'm experiencing some flickering while playing video or using the projector as a monitor. Do you think the flickering could be a symptom of the source? I'm considering buying a better pc card in hopes that it will clean up the signal. I'm guessing the best way to troubleshoot this would be to connect the projector to another source but unfortunately I don't have one available right now.

Anyone have any thoughts on how I should proceed? Would I see much improvement in quality if I got a better video card?

Thanks for your help and sorry about the rambling nature of my post!

If I recall correctly (I'm old with a terrible memory and I've slept since then) I needed to go into the Display Properties on the PC and adjust the Refresh Rate to cure a similar problem - I think I went from 72 Hz to 60 Hz, but don't quote me ;).

Thanks for responding!

After submitting my post I was messing around with my screen settings(refresh rate and resolution) and at some point the flickering stopped. So I think you were right!

Thanks!

Thanks for the note. have been travelling abroad

Living in sunny South Africa, the range of Hi-fi goods is limited compared with Europe or USA so it's a case of making the best of what is available within my budget.....$5000.
Busy setting-up a home theatre system and am getting seriously challenged by the sales pitches and performance specs accompanying several components......My viewing preference will be for music DVD's and literary classics rather than the Batman,Terminator, Pearl Harbour etc special effects genre.
Since I want to get the "best bang for my bucks" and seeing that I probably won't upgrade within the next 2 years I am being ultra cautious, wanting to buy "the best" I can afford.

These are some of the choices I need to make:

Do I get....

A 42" Panasonic Viera Plasma TV vs Panasonic PT AX100 projector

Sub woofer ...Velodyne 12" vs Atlantic Technologies vs B&W (Room is 5m x 9m)

Centre speakers(to match my B&W CDM 7NT's): stay with B&W or go for Bostons?

Anyone having personal experience they would care to share in respect of any of the above options.

Regards

basil
