Tried to research this as I'm sure it's been asked an answered many times but for some reason the search feature is unavailable right now. So here it is:
I'm trying to connect my PC (via coaxial spdif out) to my home theater reciever (via coaxial in). Stereo audio comes through fine on the left and right channels but I can not get 5.1 to come through... even when playing a 5.1 source (i.e. DVD). The receiver has a signal indicator that shows a 2-channel PCM signal coming in. Can anyone offer any suggestions... any help is much appreciated!!!

Equipment:
Yamaha RX-V363 Receiver
Diamond Xtreme Sound 7.1 24 bit sound card

There may be a setting in your control panel to tell your computer to output 5.1 instead of 2.1. Also, what software are you using to play dvd's?. You may need to set your software to output 5.1 as well. Some software, like the free version of Power DVD do not support 5.1 sound.

In you audio control panel you should have an option like "S/PDIF pass through". It should be selected. This will let's the 5.1 from your DVDs pass through the coaxial cable.

For games you won't be able to pass the 5.1 sound unless your card has a feature called DDL (Dolby Digital Live), which your card seems to have. That must be on for the 5.1 sounds from games to be encoded on the fly and passed as 5.1 to your receiver.
