PC Speakers - Creative I-Trigue

Anyone have any experience with the Creative I-Trigue speakers? Specifically the L3800's? My speakers and sound card died in a tragic power-supply accident, and I'm looking to replace them. (probably X-Fi XtremeMusic sound card)

I think they're pretty cool looking and the 30Hz on the sub would be pretty nice...but there's nowhere around her to audition.

heh they are alright, not too much power though. I would take a look at the Logitech Z-2300's if they will fit your budget.

I would get The creative over the logitechs.

The Logi's are ONLY good for gaming. They need a serious EQ job to sound good for music. Trust me, I have the Z2200's.

I'm waiting for the Gigaworks to come out in 2.1

There is a couple Altec lansing models that sound really nice, but I don't know if you can get them, Best Buy.com doesn't have them displayed.

the bass is clean, much cleaner then the Z**** series speakers, and the treble is not fatiguing. They are also inexpensive.

They are great for gaming, but the second I put on music, they stink. I use headphones now (HD500's) because I can't stand them anymore.

first time I saw the i-trigue 3400 (personally) was yesterday. they sure look a lot better on the website. plus the fact they are minute in size, the website pics sure have messed with my imagination.

Depending on what you want out of a PC speaker, the Altec-Lansing MX5021's are the best music PC speakers I've heard (NOTE: Noticed at Frys the other day that A-L has a new 2.1 speaker system for $100.00 more. They're HUGE). It just depends on what you're using them for.

Hm. Well, I actually found a place here that had both the i-trigue and the logitech z-2300s. I actually really disliked the z-2300s. They seemed way too muddy to me. Even after jiggling with the tone controls for a while. (But they could play loud.)

I liked the way the i-trigue 3800s sounded. (some of the lower-end i-trigue speakers sounded like junk, but the 3800s are quite good) So I picked them up, and am very happy with them so far.

Personally, I have tested about 20 different sets of pc speakers over the last 8yrs. They all pretty much sucked especially Creative. Some that I did find ok were the higher end Midilands, and earlier Logitech models pre-z-2300's.

For the price you are going to be putting into computer speakers, you could...
$300 Athena Micro 6 - 5.1 speaker set
$150 Yamaha cheapo 5.1 receiver htr-5730

And blow away all the crap computer speakers.
Plus you get another HT system in your computer room

The best PC speakers I have heard are the Klipsch ProMedia Ultra models. They blow away everything else available for the PC. It's easy to tame the highs with a little EQ. After that, in my opinion, you'd have to go for a receiver/speakers setup to get any better.

Ahh, forgot about klipsch. Yeah they were pretty decent.
Still can't beat a Athena micro 6 setup though...and both 5.1 setup's cost roughly the same...

Of course that involves about $300 more, plus going to a 5.1 system which there just isn't room for in this room. That kinda money is going in my savings towards upgrading my main speakers...this was a "my pc speakers died". I don't do critical listening on my computer. Its typically used for listening to mp3s while I work and the occasionaly movie once my wife's gone to sleep and I don't want to disturb her.

My problem with the Klipsch's...I read lots of reviews which said things like "These are great speakers. I'm on my third pair since I blew the other two sets." or similar. Doesn't speak too highly of their QC to me. (not dissing klipsch, just leery of their pc speakers)

I just bought the ProMedia Ultra 2.0 last night and I can give you my initial impressions for what it's worth. I also wanted to simplify things - I really don't want 5.1 for the computer because I mainly play mp3s while I work or surf the web. When I do listen a bit more critically (editing audio) I tend to wear my my headphones. A simple 2.0 system with good power and decent bass is all I want and the ProMedia Ultra 2.0 looked to be a good choice (they were recommended by others on a thread I started).

They certainly look nice and feel solid. They are extremely easy to setup and aren't like most computer speakers from Logitech or Creative that have all the wires physically attached to one speaker. There is simply the power connector, the line input cable from the soundcard and a single cable with rca plugs on each end to connect the powered speaker (right) to the passive speaker. The volume control is also the on/off switch and there is a bass level control. It has a headphone input and an additional line input on the right speaker that could be used to quickly connect an ipod or other portable device with a 1/8" mini jack.

- The 15 watts per channel is plenty - they can play very loud and yet the sound remains clear. I could even hear them well from the kitchen.
- The stereo image is very good - it sounds like the music is coming from the center of the monitor as you would expect.
- The bass is more than adequate. I have the bass level control turned way down and the sound card's bass level set at 50%. The bass is not boomy like my old Logitech Z-540 but of course it doesn't go much lower than 50 Hz.
- I think the 'brightness' that is often associated with Klipsch is present but it is only annoying for songs with a lot of high frequency horns (which I dislike in general anyway). I tamed that a bit by simply turning down the treble control on the sound card mixer. If you were to use the equalizer, I'm sure the sound could be tailored exactly to your liking.

For the most part I am pleased but I have only owned them for one day so I can't yet say anything about how long they will last. They are a bit pricey for a simple stereo speaker system ($108 including tax) but all in all I think they were a good purchase and meet my goal of having a decent stereo setup without all the hassles of 4 or 5.1 which I never use in front of the computer.

The X230's are a bargain speaker system. Very clean, no harshness that the Z**** line has, and best of all, the price. The bass is very clean and controled for a 5inch subwoofer.

These guys in a near field setup would be awesome.
