passing through

hello everyone

trying to hook up a PS3 via HDMI to an ONKYO 605, then using the component out to a projector (infocus x2). All I get is a blue screen.


PS3 is hooked into HDMI 1 and on the receiver, i have HMDI Input set to HDMI 1

I can get the ONKYO's on screen display to appear on the projector. But I cant get the movie to appear.

I'm thinking I may not have "component out" (my words) set up correctly. I have them plugged into the "component outs" and thats all I thought I had to do.

any ideas? let me know if ou need more info

Hey. I'm almost positive that you cannot convert an HDMI input signal to a component video output signal on that receiver. I'll double check the owners manual, but that's what I think is happening.

I just checked out the manual, and that is the issue. The flow of video signals through your receivers is covered on pages 24 and 25 of the owners manual. An HDMI input signal can only be output through the HDMI output jack - it can't be downconverted to component video.

EDIT: If you don't have your manual, you can download it from Onkyo's support page for owners manuals (just scroll down to the listing for the 605 and click on it for the PDF version of the manual).

that must be it - because i get audio just fine - and I can tell the projector is "seeing" the receiver - but just no picture

okay - kinda bummed- but I'll survive for now - makes me have an excuse to get a new projector

Does the PS3 have component video out? If so, I'm sure that you've thought of this (or even done it by now) - you could just hook that up to the receiver. You'd also need to hook up the digital audio connection from the PS3 to the Onkyo.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to talk you out of getting a new projector. Just trying to get you set up to watch a movie today.
