Paradigm?

Ok so I've read alot about these speakers, very interested in listening to them. Only one problem... I have no clue how to pronounce these things. I really dont want to walk in somewhere and say the name all messed up and look like I have no idea what I'm doing. Could someone help...?

Is it Para-dim, Para-dig, Is it a Pera sound or Para sound... Sorry all this is pretty new to me...Thanks

Oh man I was way off! Thank you, how do the Studio 60's compare to the MA's RS-6?

Studio 60's are alright, I never had a chance to really listen to them. I have never had a chance to listen to Monitor Audio speakers unfortunately. I think I prefered the Studio 40s over all the other Studio series speakers in my brief listening sessions with them.

Hmmm...well alright is not what I want to go for, I'm looking for the "Holy Crap" factor. What would be your recomendation for a $2000.00 limit on a set of speakers. Keeping in mind that it will be built up to a 7.1 or 7.2 system over the year.

I can only recommend that you go out and listen to as many speakers as possible, and avoid subjective reviews as they typically don't apply to your listening tastes. Take music you know and love with you when you audition speakers, don't be afraid to ask to audition speakers (most sales folk are more than happy to oblige as they want to make a sale. Don't listen to "cables make an audible difference in sound" non-sense that dealers spew, don't listen to the non-sense that receivers sound hugely different or amplifiers sound hugely different. Don't listen to someone that sounds like they have their head up their @ss. If you want to build a system it's wise to get awesome bookshelf speakers now (for stereo) and add a subwoofer, then move the bookshelf speakers to the back when you get floorstanders for the front, then add a center channel, then another set of side mounting surrounds (move the bookshelf speakers you got first to the very back at this point). Bookshelf speakers paired with a subwoofer will give you that wow factor. The booshelf speakers handle the highs, mids, and upper bass and the subwoofer takes the WOW and puts it into perspective. A good subwoofer will wow much more than most sets of tower speakers, especially in this price range.

I would spend $1000 on a subwooofer, and $1000 on bookshelf speakers approximately.

I'm a fan of sub/sat combinations and I think Seth is offering sound advice (no pun intended). One alternative suggestion is to pick up a Hsu VTF2-MK3 for $499 and dedicate $1,500 to the speakers. That extra bit could open up some serious speaker options and move you up a class. You could later add another VTF-2 (which would be awesome) and pick up some towers to replace the bookshelves as mains.

Brands I prefer over Paradigm = B&W, Focal.JMLabs, Dynaudio, Era.

I found the MA RS6 to be harsh but others dont. It just depends on what you like. I have the 40's in a 8,000 cubic foot room and they do a very nice job. Also look at Dynaudio and B&W.

Well I already have a Infinity PS-212 sub. "bought back when i thought big wattage actually ment something" So my sub will be the last thing I upgrade since its my newest piece of equipment. I'm thinking about going with Paradigm's Signature S4's, if I can find a pair of them for 2 grand. Im overseas right now so cant start looking anywhere except on line...

When I was shopping for my PSBs (in a lower price bracket mind you), I listened to the Paradigm monitor series (and wasn't impressed) and the studio series which I admit were better, but I'm not sure they were as much better as their cost indicated (not to mention that I couldn't afford them).

I listened the Monitor Audio RS5's and also their Bronze (cheaper), and I actually came away liking the Bronze (BR5 I think) better than the silver. I thought the silver was boring to listen to (more polite). I listen to rock so to me this wasn't a good thing. To some it might be good. Depends on your tastes.

Have you thought about the PSB Synchrony line? I haven't heard them, but people are raving. I'd like to go listen if there were a dealer closer to me. I guess they might be a little out of your stated budget (the 1 bookshelf is $2000 msrp, and the 2 bookshelf is $1500 msrp). Just a thought. I also agree with the dynaudio and JMLab recommendations. I have a friend with an older pair of Cobalt towers that are very nice.

Thanks! From what I've read all of those speakers are awesome, yeah the Synch line is out of my range, I'm sure its pretty stellar though. I guess all the fun is going to start once I get home and actually start demo's on all the speakers that I have been reading about day in day out. Its pretty exciting but I still have a couple of months to go so I have to contain myself.

I listened to the Studio 20, 40, and 60 about a month ago. Very clean sound across the line.

Go and audition them with material you are used to. If you like what you hear, consider another company with similar sounding speakers at a much better price: Axiom.

I recently listened to several speakers in their line and was really wowed by the M80.

Others who have done a/b comparisons, the M60 is similar to the studio 60 and the M80 is similar to the Studio 100.
