Paradigm Studio 60's v5

This is my first post on Audioholics, however, I have been reading threads here for quite a while and have always found this forum to be knowledgeable and helpful.

I am considering buying a pair of used Studio 60's v5 through Audiogon. The seller has agreed to sell them for $1,300 and would pay for shipping. The seller rates them in a 9/10 condition, however, he does not have any feedback as a seller. Do you guys feel this is a good deal? I have done searches for the typical selling prices of the v5 60's, but most posts I saw were from around 2009 and I'm guessing the resale value has shifted since then.

Also, does anyone know of a projected time frame for when v6 will be coming out, and how significant of a price drop do you expect this to have on v5's?

Sounds like decent deal to me, be sure.to use a credit card to insure your purchase.
I would suggest getting detailed photos, as well as insured shipping!

Also, I am currently intending to upgrade from the Klipsch Quintet IV's with the KW100 sub powered by a Denon AVR 1912 receiver and have a few questions. My use is about 50/50 music/HT. My room is 16x19 with two openings to a dining room and kitchen. The room, however, will change in the not so distant future as the Marine Corps currently has me moving about once a year for flight school.

I am considering using the 60's with a phantom center (until I can afford to buy a timbre matching CC) and using the Quintets for surrounds (5.1 or possibly 7.1).

-Will the bright Quintets be able to blend with the 60's decently when used as surrounds for HT? Or am I better off trying to sell the Quintets and go a different route for surrounds?

-Would it make sense to still use the KW-100 sub with the 60's with the the speakers set to small and crossover around 80 Hz, or would this entry level sub most likely just muddy the sound of the Paradigm speakers? I intend to upgrade the sub at a later date.

-Additionally, I recognize the AVR 1912 is far from optimal for powering the 60's, but will it be suitable for moderate volume until I am able to upgrade receivers farther down the road? I don't need incredible volume that "shakes the house" right now. Just hoping to have moderate volume without running into clipping.

At this moment in time I only have money to purchase the 60's, but would be looking to upgrade piece by piece throughout the next year or so.

I would def utilize the quintets as surrounds - which don't have to be nearly a match as the front 3. Its worth a try and will def hold you over until you can afford to upgrade if you feel down the line they are not worthy of the performance you are seeking...

As well as the Sub - since you already have it and it cost you nothing to try it - see how it does. No question there are better subs out on the market, but try it out and compare to running the speakers large without the sub... Your room isn't huge by any stretch but the openings will make it more difficult to pressurize... A larger sub or pair will be a great addition to your new setup down the line.

It costs you nothing to experiment with the products you have....

Thanks much. Yeah I definitely intend to experiment some with the setup once I get it. I just wanted to get a feel for how my old system would be able to supplement the 60's before I actually made the purchase for the studios.

Also, I see you're from Milwaukee. That's were I'm actually from originally before I got stationed down in Texas. I went to Marquette when I lived there. Milwaukee is a good town.

Milwaukee, I can't normally complain - but this week I'll be *****in - not a big fan of the High Heat - coupled with the high humidity....

I hear you on the high heat and high humidity stuff. Although I don't like the 0 degrees stuff a whole lot either.

I definitely plan to take my time and do it right. I just pulled the trigger on a pair of used v5 Studio 60's which will be what I plan to build my system around.

Before the Quintets I just had a Panasonic HTIB and an old Klipsch HTIB. Both were adequate for my needs at the time, but now I've been looking to move to something more substantial. I've liked the Quintets so far, but felt like I really needed a good set of set of floor standers or monitors to get the sound I'm looking for. I'm definitely looking forward to getting the 60's set up and then slowly building a system that will be able to last me for a long time.

Yes but the kicker is - you can keep on putting on more clothes in colder weather, you can only take off so much clothes in the heat before you get your @$$ arrested....

I pulled the trigger on the 60's and I must say I am very impressed with the clarity, balance, imaging and soundstage of these speakers Thanks to all of you who gave me input and advice!

I'm currently using the 60's with a phantom center in a 7.1 setup in which the I'm using the Quintets for the 4 surrounds and the Klipsch KW-100 for a sub. My receiver is still the Denon 1912 that originally powered the Quintets at the moment.

Overall, I am quite happy with the phantom center setup, but am looking to add a CC at some point. The seller I bought the 60's from has a Studio CC v2 for sale for $225 shipped.

-In your guys opinions how well would this match with the v5 60's? Would I be better off waiting and saving for a matching CC490? Also, my setup does not currently allow for another 60 to be used as a CC unfortunately.

-Should I be looking to upgrade receivers before I add a CC? The Denon 1912 seems to handle the current setup alright, but I just want to make sure that it wouldn't be woefully under powered and likely to cause clipping issues if a CC is added to the mix.
