can anyone tell me what the finish material of the studio 60's is? i read in one of the threads here that it is vinyl. the brochure from paradigm says "premium finish" but does not specify material. google didn't help. the sales rep in adio video unlimited thinks it is a laminate. can anyone help?

Premium Finish means vinyl :(

I went with the black ash, as it looked better to me then the wood colors, I just thought they looked really cheap...

Odd. I'm looking over my Studio 100's right now, and they don't at all look like Vinyl. In fact, running my hand over it I can feel the wood grain. Very odd indeed.

I guess should reword my original statement.... comparing the vinyl wood grain on the speakers next to my Rosenut SVS sub of Rosenut on my SVS speakers, I find the vinly far less attractive then the real thing...

Paradigm does an amazing job with the vinyl on their speaker, one would have to look hard to see any flaws in its implementation... With that said, I would much prefer to have a set of the Paradigm S8's in real Cherry or Piano Black compared to the looks of the Studios... but I love my speakers to death...

I'm sorry Thaedium, I wasn't trying to imply that they are less then adequate, I own a full set myself.... just preferred the black ash, as it seemed to stand out less as vinyl....

The finish is the one thing I dislike about the Studio series. I think they are plain ol' ugly but the sound makes up for it. I was wondering if there was anyway to have them refinished in a piano gloss?

Of coarse there is a way, its just that small matter of warranty that becomes the issue, Paradigm states zero modifications, and they stand behind what they say !!!! :(

Yah Warp, no worries. I had high hopes, high hopes, is all. heh. Totally fooled me, I had always just assumed, and never really considered it a selling point to me before. In retrospect, I think for future Speakers it will be an issue with me.

I don't know if they still do it or not, but Studios used to come two ways - vinyl or real wood veneer. The real wood veneers were quite a bit more, but they also looked a lot better.

Definitely DO NOT offer that option anymore... unfortunately...

Either way, my future upgrade will be totally wood, and I'm not sure what that will cost me, but I like the beauty of it...

Still my idea of one of the most elegant looking speakers is the Paradigm Signature's... I wish they just weren't so darn expensive...

But then again, I have never even had the chance to listen to them... :(

Don't listen to them...they are a lot better IMO. You will just want them more.

Still pisses me off that I passed up the deal on the Sig4 for about what I paid for the Studios.

This summer/spring will be about me taking motorcycle rides to chicago to try on different speakers... mainly Aerial and Paraidgm Signatures...

Aerial are for the sound and not as much for the looks, but Sig's for the looks and hoping for the sound...

The Sigs sound great but so do a lot of speakers at that price range. If you just want to get the best speakers and be done with it, you know where to go.

***hint*** starts with a "B" has a "W" in it and the model number has a "D"...

D'Aerial? :D The Sigs are great, but they aren't competition for Aerial IMO.
