RAAL's the 70-10D which is around $389 and the 140-15D which is around $677 and the 70-20XR for manufacturers is around $700 - 800 a pair. Matter of fact Canuck has a pair for 700, The Phils have the 70-10D according to the site, Salk must be using the 70-20XR.

That's what I thought....

Ya know, I brought this up at the GTG because it stuck out in my mind that the tweeters were different - in fact I gathered this info from comparing the different speaker threads - Salk and Ascend that I actually went straight to the RAAL website from there to see what the differences were.... So now I know I'm not crazy...

I was under the thought that the RAAL's were larger in the Ascends....

I think just the face plates are. Someone posted that who is tied to Ascend...cannot remember who, though.

I believe you are correct. I think Dave implied that over on AVS.

The custom faceplate I believe is to ease the installation of the RAAL with the front baffle, so there is no need for having to manufacture two different cabinets (one for the customer SEAS NrT and for the RAAL). If you order the RAAL upgrade, there is a minor change inside the cabinet that is done during assembly.

It would be an interesting to see a list of RAAL tweeter models used in specific speakers.

one thing for sure, the raal in the ascend are the 70-20 xr version with amorphous core transformer.
