Studio 100s can be had for about $2900 + tax a pair.
I rather get a pair if Philharmonic 2 speakers + dual Rythmik FV12 subs for $3,000 + shipping.

The Philharmonic 2 are $2000/pr.

That's the route I'd go, to be quite honest. Of course, I'd just use the dual DIY TC2000 subs I have. :D Or, rather than dual Rythmik FV12's I'd substitute one LMS5400. Hehe.:)

How would one DIY TC2000 be? Someone might have oone he is looking to get rid of soon that i could pick up. :D

I suppose 1 sub will suffice, especially if you can place it right between the 2 speakers.

Otherwise, if you just place it on the right side of the room, the bass volume on the left will be less, and vice versa.

2 subs just seem more symmetric.

Awesome. I will be stopping at Warpdrv's house on the way to give a listen to the DIY sub and his sig s8's. Then onto your house to audition the SongTowers. I will be contact with you about this mid january. Getting excited to almost have a set speaker picked out. A friend will be comkming with me if thats alright with you. He is the one who got me all into this audio stuff. He has magnapan 3.7's.

I plan on buying eith this amp to power the sub:
Behringer NU3000DSP iNUKE 3000 Watt Power Amplifier w/DSP
http://www.parts-express.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=248-6706
OR
a used Behringer EP2500 which i found on craigslist for $225.

A TC2000 and one of those amps will make for a killer subwoofer. I think Patrick even has one or two boxes left to go with the driver. ;) January will be a fun time!

Well i think the paradigms are officially out of the question. Only problem now is 2 new contenders have entered in its place. Funny how that works. Anyways narrowed it down to these 3, i hope.
-Ascend Acoustics Sierra Tower w/RAAL ($2800 +shipping)
-The Philharmonic 2 w/RAAL ($2000 + shipping) but only available in black
-Salk Sound Tower w/RAAL ($2700 + shipping)

Well, just wanted to add, i think Dennis could built you a custom Phil2 for some upcharge. If i remember correctly, is around 600.

Then you are at $2600 and at that price i might as well go with the Philharmonic 3's for $3000 as the finish i want is already included in the price and the speaker has upgraded drivers and such.

Driver is already in the box and ready to go.... very very little use on this driver... basically new....

Got another brand new one to match, not in box, but I have a box to accommodate it - I'd have to pull the TC-3000 out of that one, and drop in the 2000.... you could have a matched set.... just like brandon...

Terry did a nice job with the big boxes he snagged from me, very little roundover on the edges, and then a real dark stain or paint which still let the wood veneer show through.... I thought they turned out great for his LMS upgrade.... I highly suggest that look...

I wonder why most of us get the Philharmonic 3, instead of 2!:D

Of course, if you want to stain the cabinets red or any other color, that will cost another $100. But I think the natural finish (no color stain) is $3K.

Although some of us think they are worth $6K or more.:D

Actually, you might want to get the 2's and pay for the upgraded cabinet. The reason is, it's more sensitive (easier to drive) and since you're crossing to a subwoofer you won't need the extra bass depth anyway. I might actually consider going this route if the wifey doesn't want the black cabinets.

I suspect the Philly 2's will sound better than the SongTower's and Ascend Towers.

i think thats fair considering the SS are 200+ each. the good thing about Dennis is that he wont profit more by selling you a higher price speaker. all you pay is the labor and the cost of parts.

This is exactly why i am going to go with one of the smaller companies. You get the most for your money.

Ribon upgrade

Just wondering why is ribbon upgrade on Philharmonics is $400 while its $700 for SongTowers or SierraTowers. I figured possible answers are:
1. There is $300 markup on upgrading the tweeter at Salk or Ascend
2. The stock tweeter in Phils1 is better than stock tweeter in STs
3. Denis uses a different (cheaper) RAAL than ribbon STs

anybody knows the answer? Too old and lazy to find the answer myself...

My guess would be:
The unit from the ascend are more costly due to its custom face plate and amorphous core and probably 10 vs 20.
There is an upcharge from salk for the front baffle to accomodate the tweeter cutout. Salk prefabricated the dome front baffle but only custom make the one for the raal tweeter.
You are only paying the cost diference from Philarmonics. The cabinets are prefabricated and there is not cost involved whether getting the 1 or 2.

As far as I know the tweeter in the Salk's and the Sierra Tower's is the same except for the custom faceplate for each (they both have their own). The tweeter in the Salk's is the "oem" version, which if desired allows for an attenuation switch to be installed (I believe you can boost by up to 3dB or cut by 3dB). Dennis uses the 10 tweeter, which simply might be cheaper in cost due to the standard face plate and non-oem capabilities.

That's what I thought....

Ya know, I brought this up at the GTG because it stuck out in my mind that the tweeters were different - in fact I gathered this info from comparing the different speaker threads - Salk and Ascend that I actually went straight to the RAAL website from there to see what the differences were.... So now I know I'm not crazy...

I was under the thought that the RAAL's were larger in the Ascends....
