Paradigm Signature S8's

Greetings,
I am considering the purchase of Paradigm Signature S8's. I would like to profit from the collective wisdom of the fourm and open a discussion of the power component of the speaker purchase quandry. My query is: How much power (watts/channel) is needed to dirve these speakers. I know, I know, "more is better" however the dreaded budget raises its ugly head. Can I due justice to these beasts with a receiver producing 140w/ch in the 7.1 configuration? Can I use the reprogramable 6th and 7th channel to bi-amp the fronts if I only use 5.1? These speakers will be used 80% for music and 20% for movies. Any advice and guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
ctwed

What receiver are we talking about here, and what made you chose the Signature 8's?

I will be using the Yamaha rxv2700. I have not yet finalized on the S8 however, I auditioned this speaker and for the price, I have yet to hear the combination of base ability along with the speed and clarity.

ctwed,
Below is some info I got from one of many reveiws of the S8's.
Sensitivity is quoted as 88dB in an anechoic chamber, 91dB in your listening room. Suitable power range is 15 to 500 watts.
I power my S8's with 110 w
Good luck making your choice.

S8s are some sweet speakers!
I think you'll do fine to run them off your AVR. I'm not a big proponent of high dollar amps (my PSB platinums are hooked to my $169 AVR while my NAD electronics collect dust in a closet).

I wonder how the Onix Strata Mini's would compare to the S8's.

Don't the mini's have powered woofers?

Also I can't think of any veneer that can compare better than the S-series bird's eye maple. (personal choice of course).

ctwed,

I just bought a pair of S8 two weeks ago and I am pairing it with the marantz sr8001. I compared the sr8001 (125w/per ch) with the yamaha 2700 and like the sound of the Marantz better. I plan to add a separate amp to the receiver later.
