Paradigm or Klipsch Sub

Greetings. I'm looking at getting a subwoofer for my system. I'm using a HK AVR235 with Paradigm Titans as the fronts, CC170 center and Atoms in the rear. Currently no sub. My room is 15 x 15, wood floors with vaulted ceilings. I was thinking about going with a Paradigm PD10 subwoofer until I ran across a Klipsch KSW-10 in costco last night for $200. The Klipsch is a down-facing sub, which seems strange to me. I'm not interested in having a sonic boom in my living room (while my wife does really like the surround sound I'm not sure how stoked she will be with heavy bass). Any opinions on what will fit with my current system?

I'm a newbie - so go easy on me.

Thanks in advance,

Rob

SVS and HSU seem to have the best subs around according to the members and staff here.

I must suggest going with the PDR-12 over the PDR-10 due to your room size. This will provide that extra punch your after and within your budget. There are definitely bigger and badder subs from Paradigm, HSU, SVS, ABC, 123, etc.. But you will be happy with the PDR-12. Just do me a favor and don't audition the PWseries or Servo, than you will turn into a bass junkie and be hooked for life :)

Personally

Given your question is specific to the Klipsch and Paradigm my personal experience and my reading of reviews online and within traditional publications would lead me to highly recommend the Paradigm. Although Klipsch is a fine manufacture of speakers in general they would never come to mind as a frontline sub manufacturer.

Now if you want other suggestions I would tell you to consider companies that specialize in subs such as SVS, Hu Research and my personal choices of REL, Velodyne and M&K. There is a lot of good product available out there.

I have actually heard horror stories about the klipsch synergy series subs (the one you are looking at). I ahve heard from numerous people that the fuse blows in a few weeks, but once they get a new one it is fine. I myslef have never had any problems with my Klipsch speakers, but would not reccomend their subs. Hope this helps.

Thanks

Thanks for all of the responses. I've read a few review about this particular Klipsch sub that complained about fuses blowing. I'm really happy with my paradigm speakers so I'll probably go back to the local guy to get either a PDR-10 or a PDR-12 sub. He seems really knowledgeable so I'm sure he'll steer me in the right direction. Thanks again for the posts.
