340 square ft room...Denon AVR 2805 7.1 receiver...4 Paradigm monitor 7 v.4(fronts and backs)

I need a center channel, a sub, and two rear surrounds.. I am a rookie at this and all help is appreciated...I was leaning towards the cc370 for the center until I was told that was not a great choice..I never even new you could use a Monitor 3 as a center...I guess I just want, and will value all suggestions, for what I have left to buy....Thanks!!

Nope, never seen a 'digm dealer that would sell just one unless they had some returns. I'd check with them, but the chances are slim. You could do 6.1 and use the second one of the pair as the rear center.

There is nothing wrong with the CC370 as a center, it is quite decent and blended perfectly with my Monitor 5s.

As mentioned in your other thread, if it were me, I would use a Monitor 5 as my center. That being said I don't know if the dealer can order just one speaker. They could when I bought my Studio 20's.

The local Paradigm Rep explained to me a while back that Paradigm will NOT ship just one Studio 20 v.3. In other words, the only way an authorized dealer will end up with just a single Studio 20 would be due to a return of some kind. Besides, why would the op want to mix the Studio and Monitor Series? There is a huge difference between the two lines imho. That is, the Studio Series is a big step-up both in terms of performance as well as price. However, your recommendation regarding the Monitor 5 may actually be a good thing. I already recommended a Mini or even using a set of them in another post. But, after more thought the Monitor 5 's may actually work better especially since the op has Monitor 7's in the from and the rear. The cc-370 will have a hard time keeping up with both sets of Monitor 7's. Personally, imho the cc-370 is the weakest link of the Monitor Series both v.3 and v.4. Not sure about the v.5 because that is a totally different ball-game altogether.

The 5s and 7s have exactly the same drivers. The 370 was able to keep up with my 5s without issue, so I don't see where it will have a hard time keeping up. Personally, I've always felt the Monitor 3s and 9s were the weakest links in the lineup. The 9s should have been discontinued just like the Studio 80s were....

I have a pair of the Monitor 7 v4's with a cc-370 for the center. The cc-370 works great and I've never had a problem with it. And for a sub, I have an SVS PB12-Plus/2.

Well this is why we are all different. If not, then we all would own the same speakers, drive the same cars/trucks, and etc. Personally, I preferred the Monitor 3's to the Mini-but that is me. The reason being the Monitor 3 v.3/v.4's had a larger sound stage and could handle reference levels better w/o as much distortion/break-up as opposed to the Mini. I dont like the cc-370 period. There are many others out there that feel the same AND there are some that like it. If it were me, I would look to find a different solution-one that excludes the cc-370 especially if I was using (2) sets of Monitor 7's for front and rear duties.

Please take a moment and slowly reread my post. I cut pasted it below. I am not sure how you could respond as you did. Also, I was standing next to the dealer when called Paradigm to see if he could order the single Studio 20, Paradigm said yes and it was a done deal and I had it a few days. This was when the v2 was the current speaker if that matters. As a matter of interest, when Kal Rubinson, a Contributing Editor at Stereophile, had Paradigm Studio 60's as his mains, he found a single Studio 20 superior to the CC center the same as me. His were v3. We exchanged several posts about this awhile back over on the AVS forum, so at least one other person thought the same as I do about the CC center.

Just providing another opinion to be considered, just as you are entitled to yours. The OP should go LISTEN to the speaker before making a decision.... I owned a v2 and a v3 370 (as well as a 170 and 270). The v2 did have some response issues (similar design to the 270), but those issues were corrected with the design change in the v3 and it was fine for the price.

You'll notice I no longer own these speakers.... The Monitor series isn't where I'd sink my money to be honest, I'd go straight to the Studio line.

Hello there Nick. Please dont take me wrong regarding the single Studio 20 issue. I was just referring to my local Paradigm Rep as he claimed that was "Paradigm's" policy. I do not know if that was with the v.3 version or not as I did not ask that. In fact, I am not at all familiar w/the Studio v.2 versions at all so I will refrain from comment. Kal is a really nice guy as I have exchanges several posts with him as well but not on this forum. Kal madie it clear to me that it is best to set the Studio 20 upright if using one as a center. Sorry if you took me wrong-no pun intended.:) :)

I agree I would go for the Studio Series as well. However, it will be interesting to see given that the all new Monitor v.5 line has been totally redesigned just how close the Monitor Line will be to the Studio Line w/respect to performance. Personally, I can't wait to hear them myself-the same holds true with regards to the all new Studio v.4. Have you had a chance yet to hear either of the new versions? My local dealer claims they should be getting the newer versions later this month/early Febuary.

No big deal. I tried the 20 upright and on it's side and I could not hear a difference which is a good thing since upright provides placement problems for me. After five years I continue to be very happy with the setup.

Yeah the 20's are fantastic. Three of them across the front is bound to be awesome. Anyways, thanks for understanding as I have learned a great deal from your posts and I enjoy reading them. Have a great day there.:) :)
