Does he also have the 60s? Maybe we will just head straight there instead of checking the local dealers near me... I can hear all three side by side... That is what we have been looking for, for some time now.. ( we are really looking forward to seeing the CC-690.. no one near me has that in stock.. )

Call him.... 414-354-5082

I have the 690, so you can hear that monster at my house...
When I was there, he only had the studio line setup with 2 channel listening.

That is the way I would suggest you listen to speakers... Bring music you like and movies for my house, I mostly have every movie that you could possibly think of... 500+ in house, most are streaming right through my network. :) :)
You can figure that If you like the 40's, and you like the 100's for music, the 690 is just another 100 basically laying on its side...   :D

BTW, Dave the owner, is kinda weird... he is really fanatical about his stuff, and I really think he's a B&W fanboy, but he is nice, and is extremely knowledgable about his products. If he thinks your not a buyer, I think he loses patients with those, and I could tell that right away.

He kinda gave me a weird look when I brought in music that I burned all to one CD, as if to say, your going to bring that half a$$ed quality in to audition...
But that was just a CD I had in my car and went back with other stuff....

He also has a lot of stuff that sounds good on the paradigm's and makes them shine... :) Jazz 'n Blues... some stuff I had to say... WOW who is that... sounds great....

I think if I bought from he as a repeat customer, I could get 15%, but babel needs this equipment in his name, so I think dave would only go 10%....
He's a tough one to try to work over... believe me I tried...

What if we walked in together (referral type deal)...??

There is a local dealer here that said that he might be able to give me a 15% discount..

I doubt that you would get that deal....

Right now you are just going out to listen to the speakers and see how you like them... I wouldn't worry about prices... just see how they sound and if your going to be happy with them. Get a price from Dave... I highly doubt it will be 15% He was *****in to me about the taxes he pays for that place... he's getting screwed by that city...
He is a shrewd business man....

Then just go to the dealer by your house and get them there...
I think 15% is a good price... I got mine right when they came out with .v4 and dealers are less likely to flex on a brand new line...

Anyways... Its a pretty nice place he has... all the really cool shhhhtuff is upstairs, and you don't want to miss the B&W layout...
I was there 2 times and didn't even know he had it there... he really didn't tell me about it... when he knew what price arena I was in... It would just be wasting his time so to speak... Classe amps, nice equipment all in that room
Im really supprised he doesn't sell that Paradigm Sigs...

I said why not..? He said in his B&W fanboy tone.. "when someone wants a ferrari, they don't want to hear about corvette"  I just looked at him crosseyed... Whatever...
I highly doubt he would even put a Sig next to the B&W's in the same room..
Racist Bastard...

I don't think he's against Paradigm... he carries the Studio's and Monitor line
but when he's pimpin the higher end line... He's a B&W fanboy.....

I have to say, the layout of both the Look and $ value in his B&W lineup is quite awe inspiring.... Its worth seeing...

I really liked the 8o3 lineup sound, but could drop my wallet on that stuff..
He had almost everything on this page when I was in there....

My dealer is big into B&W too and suggested that I didnt listen to them. When I asked why he simply stated that in order to get as good of sound as the Paradigms I would have to go way up in the B&W line and the cost would be way greater.

was it then that you said "SOLD" and bought the Paradigms? :)

I have never heard B&W before. My father (who put together his "HT" awhile ago) bought B&W.. I wasn't all that impressed (his 60 inch Plasma did though :) ) but I am not sure it was calibrated correctly. I also dont know what B&W speakers he got.. I dont think he spent more than 600-800 on the speakers.. he spend most of the money on the tv..

Actually B&W was never on my list. My narrowed down list was the 60's or 100's, Monitor Audio RS6, Warfedel evos, KEF IQ and the PSB Image.

I was never able to find any PSBs so they got pulled. My dealer got the MA's in for me and I didnt like them. The other two sounded good but nothing as good as the Para's. He talked me out of the 100's and said that I sould get the 60's or 40's if I was going to use a sub. When I asked him what he would do he said "I would get the 40's".

interesting comment from the dealer re: paradigm signature & B&W. dealers in indy carry both, but no one store carries both brands. have heard B&W many different times, in the 600? line, 700 & various models in the 800 line, 800, 802, 803D & S & 805. has been too long since i heard the 800 to recall anything specific other than wow. several of the best systems i have heard all used 802 w/ either classe or macintosh components (don't recall specific mac pre-amp, 1200 or 501 amps, cary 303/300 or record player as source).
i wanted 802's but for the system i'm building would require 4 (front & dual center) which is a considerable investment in speakers alone, & would leave little money for anything else. have not heard one right after another, but have zero doubt that the 802 is a better speaker than my sig 8, & if price were no object there would be 4 of them sitting across the front of my living room. also heard the same mac setup as above w/ the 803D, & liked my sig 8's better, particularly considering the price difference & the components running the 803. this dealer is only about 20 min. away from home & listened to my discs in his system for several hours (at least once dealer got busy & I was able to get away from the big martin logans, they do sound lovely but just not for me) came home & listened to the same discs at home with my system. have alot less experience w/ the S2 & S4 & not enough to be able to comment between those & B&W.

if someone could afford the 802 or above in the B&W line, i don't see the signature line offering much competition, but imho the sig 8 offers stiff competition to the 803D at a lower price point & at least to me is a better looking speaker.

Unfortunately as soon as you mention the 800 series (or around that range) or the Signature series.. you have gone way beyond my price point. That is just a lot of money. I don't know what banks everyone is robbing or whose rich parent's daughters everyone is marrying.. ("I didn't marry you for your money my love..... no, I married you for your parents money...")... but I can't even imagine how someone can afford a total system when the two from speakers alone are running you 8k+!!!!! (and that might even be a piece!!!!)

Those speakers better cut my lawn, do the dishes, come with their own island that I can call my own, etc!!!

I was just floored when I saw that price tag...

I mean, I knew the stuff can get expensive but wow... I felt like someone tapped my shoulder and told me "Hey... turn around... you are looking at the back of the line.. not the front... you have a long way to go..." hahhaahhaha

babelfish- was only commenting on what i thought was an interesting comment by a dealer re: B&W & paradigm signature, not on what someone else should pay for a set of speakers. at least from what i have heard in indy, no speaker has the bang for the buck value of the 100 v4 (at least looking at the "large" floorstander category), & w/ the right components can give you alot (but not all) of the sound of the signature 8 for substantially less money. have heard the 100's sound great with a receiver & universal player, w/ a macintosh tube pre-amp, cd player & 252 amp, & w/ a cary integrated tube amp & mac cd player. you don't have to spend uber dollars to get great sound.

Scuze me if I enter this conversation.

I've heard the 40's, 60's, and 100's at the same time and though not impressed by any, I found the 40's to be much less resonant and had great bass. To me, the 40's had more depth, clarity, and a less compressed sound than the others.

I went there to buy a set of Studios and went away really disappointed. Now I'm saving for a set of Aerials or Sonus Fabers. No more speaker compromising for me.

By the way, I think B&W's are pretty overhyped. I like them, but for about 1/2 the price you can get comparable speakers.

Just my 2 cents. Keep the change. ;)
