Paradigm 100's with Denon 4806...good or bad?

I was delving into another forum today (ecoustics) and was reading a thread regarding Paradigm 100's. The poor fellow mentioned that he wanted to power them with a Denon and he was told, forget about it. The Denon won't do it. I thnk he was using Denon 3803. I will be using a 4806.

I heard some Paradigm's today and they almost made me forget about the B & W 703 surround system.

My question is this, should I keep the Denon 4806 or bring it back and trade it for the Parasound separates?

Separates would obviously be better, but I think the 4806 will be adequate to drive them, and if not, then a 2ch amp should solve that issue. Even the 3803 will do it, just not at decent levels and I'd be concerned about clipping. From Paradigm these days, the only speakers I really like from them are beyond my budget - the Signatures.

The 4806 is a beast, it will power those 100's easily. Everything below the 4806 within the Denon line has a less then adequate power supply for those 100's, not that it could not be done though. But the 4806 has a toroidal power supply. Were talking rock solid power. But some will argue that seperates is the only way to go.

Do you guys think the 4806 would be better suited to the B & W 703 surround system?

I would think that the Studio 100 is not more difficult to drive than the B&W703. As others have said, separates are better but I know for a fact even a RX-V2400 could do very well with the Studio 100. The 4306, or even a 3806 should give you enough power. Again, more power is better, the question is whether you could hear the difference in your listening environment. If you like the Studio, and want to forget about the 703, go and listen to the Signatures. Otherwise, don't write off the 703 too soon.

Here is one of my main problemos. Down here in the hurricane ravaged section of Louisiana, no one has any 703's to listen to. I'd have to fly houston to give them a listen, which is probably worth it considering the investment.

I've listened to high end Energy, Von Schwiekert and Klipsch speakers and not one even come close to the Paradigm. If the B & w 703's are more soulful than the Paradigms, then I'm there. When I listen to speakers, I have to be moved deep inside my chest. It's like a perfect golf swing and the reverberating impulse that sets off a turning fork in your loins and you soul. If they don't have this quality, then I'm still looking.

To me, the Energy Veritas sound much better than the Paradigm Studios, well worth the extra money. Yet, you feel the opposite. That's why it is so important to listen for yourself. A lot of people, including me, will tell you the B&W sound better, but you may not like them at all. Actually I am not too sure about the 703, but the 803, and especially the 802/3D are among the most musical speakers I have ever listened to. If you like classical music, the violin sound through the 802D was incredibly real. I could listen to it all day.

Love classical, but unfortunately the budget does not support the 800 series.

Have you heard the new Custom Theatre 800 series by B & W? I haven't yet, but I heard they sell for around 30K. Forget it...lol.

In the audioholics review of the 3805, it mentions front L/R speakers can be bi-amped if you're using a 5.1 system. Would that solve the power problem if you had the 3805 and Paradigm 100s? I was also looking into those speakers, I like their sound a lot.

The 3805 is more powerful than people think they are. Unless your system is in a relatively large room, your 3805 should do well with the 100's, especially in two channel listening.
