Paper woofer cone tear aarrrgghhh!

An accident left a three-inch hairline tear/fracture to my 12 " woofer. Need to try and repair it. Has anybody repaired(not a reconing kit) paper tears using a GE sealant called RTV #108 C? It's apparently a clear, paste-like substance. Thanks for all responses.

That sucks. Edge-to-edge gluing alone could work, but I think it would be more effective to span the gap with fibers of some kind. Fabric, perhaps?

Clear fingernail polish. Works flawlessly.

Yep, fingernail polish will work. If it is a stiff cone, RTV will not work. They sell driver tape that can be used for this as well. Not perfect or good looking, but it does the job.

when you say it's torn, do you mean little rip or gouge. little rip.. Polish....

Otherwise replace driver... if that can't be done recone. you can send it out. many places can do.

I am assuming this is a subwoofer? If not disregard all i have said.. you didn't see anything

I used a local place last time for re-coning some JBL 12" woofers and this old man was expensive!

Therefore I suggest "The Speaker Exchange" in Tampa Florida. Flawless work, good prices. I've been to their shop and they stay busy, but turn around is quick. 2 year warranty too.

I have used superglue before.

A friend of mine had a bazooka tube and one of the wires to the voicecoil disconnected at the woofer, we cut a small square flap above it for access, resoldered and glued it...worked for at least another year before his crappy solder failed.

Stay away from that GE garbage.

All you need is one tube of a sealent called "Vulkem 116",its a polyurethane caulking compound that comes in a standard size caulk tube,you can get it at any pro builders supply,ps home depot is not a pro builders supply.

Vulkem 116 comes in a ton of colors including black & dries very pliable,the finish product after drying will stretch like silicone (which is garbage btw) & will stick to anything you put it on as long as the surface is not wet.

Any pro builders supply house or a custom glass supply will carry Vulkem 116,another good substitute if you cant find Vulkem 116 is called "Sika Flex 1-a" & can also be found at pro supply houses,both products are less than $10 a tube.

Wonderful alternative suggestions. Tear is actually is actually a hairline thin fracture. No gaping hole. I see one or two pin pricks. 3"-4" hairline fracture faintly visable on both sides. Cone is paper/wool and rough textured; not a sub.
