In the $2500-$3000 range, these are my options. What's better? i am sorry to be ignorant but I know nothing about displays. Any links to some threads that discuss which format is the best? I am looking to buy now and would like to match it with my Denon 2910.

Thanks

I have a Panasonic Viera and really like it. The only thing I dont like about it is the fact the the VGA input is on the front of the plasma. If you are looking at the HD model the Panasonic only does not accept 720p, or its native resolution unless you use the VGA input. I have tested the 2910 on the plasma and it looks really good...cant speak for the LCD.

Some things to consider would be where you are placing the TV if its going to be in a faily bright area I would go for the LCD, because plasma's doent do very well in light areas.

I know a lot about that plasma and may be able to be a better help if you give some specifcs about what you want from your display...whats important to you.

Thanks Vancouver.

i am looking for something in the 50 inch range. I liked the 55" Sony LCD rear projection for $3000 , or its 50" cousin for $2600, but looking at the Panasonic models, they seem crisper. My room is not all that bright. Maybe a little during the day. It will be close to my sub, a Hsu STF 3 as this is the only place for my sub, between the TV and front speaker, so I hope there is no interference with the TV. I am trying to gain as much info as I can before spending $3000.

I guess you have to worry about burn in, bulb replacement?? Not that i plan on having this, or any piece of audio or video equipment forever as upgrade bugs seem to hit me often.

Thanks dude...any help would be great. Guess I just want a good bang for buck, but am prepared to spend a tad more if it's worth it..

I cant comment on the sony, but here is what I can tell you about the panasonic. It is a very good, safe choice. Strong picture quality, looks great on the wall and honestly there is no concern for burn in or any further maintenance down the road. Unless you have static images on the plasma for hours on end burn in is a non issue.

There picture quality is very good, especially at that price range. In my opinion the only short commings the panasonic plasma has is in thier HD models when it comes to sending its native resolution or using the HDMI input.

what will you be using the plasma for? DVD, TV? Standard TV looks like crap on all plasmas (and probably LCDs too). If I were you I would urge getting satilite for TV viewing.

oh...the other nice thing about plasma is there is no need to worry about interference by placing speakers close to it.

Thanks. I saw a few Hitachi LCD's today and really liked them. Blacks looked much better. It was "sexier" looking too LOL. I am going to start a thread about Hitachi LCD's as I don't know anything about them.

Hitachi products are very good and under rated in my opinion.
