I'm interested to see where this thread goes. I'm still using a 200u and it runs like a champ, even though the original one had issues, had to fight for a while with panny but they sent me a new one with latest firmware from japan so no complaints. also was the first one in Florida to install a 3000ae (got it 2 days before they came out) and didn't see a big difference from mine. i guess what I'm saying is ,it doesn't sound like much changes in pq going to 1080p at larger screen size. I do have to be honest though, I upscale all sources through my PR-SC885 with HQV and I calibrate all my displays myself with spyder tv pro.

Hi all,

Does anyone know anywhere in Vancouver Canada where this projector is available? I would like to buy this locally, but after searching I can't find a single place that carries it. Help would be very much appreciated.

I believe that Visions carries Panasonic projectors, but I am not sure that they have the 4000u as of yet. I found that they were way overpriced though, and ended up buying my 2000u off ebay. Hope that helps.

Hey

I actually plugged my ax200u the other day to compare once again. The ae4000u is much better. It could be a little brighter and i don't see the game mode option there. It is better tho....

I would give it 7 out of 10 (i'm very picky, just bought lc40e77un. Just a tv to me)

And I would give 9 out of 10 to ax200u a year and a half ago.

So here you go I'm a happy customer but not overwhelmed.

I was disappointed that most ps3 games are 720p all the hdtv is 720p
it's just a blue-ray at the moment where it matters. For now...:)

I did the update to ax4000u from ae200u. You wouldn't prob be overwhelmed like me... 200u is a great projector!!!

If you know someone that works at Visions he can give it to you for the same price as you would buy it in the States. I was tempted to get one but I decided to wait for the 2010 Panasonic plasmas.

Re:

Interesting post, Hello.

I had a ax200u in my first theater room and had pretty much decided to do what you did. what's your room like for light control, size of screen, etc? I'm doing a 110 inch screen in a totally-light-controlled room. Your post is making me wonder how significant the PQ difference really is.

My screen in 140" the room is semi-bright on scale 1-10 i would say 4. The other thing I have noticed the other day is that ax200 is 2000 Lumen (720p) and the ae4000u is 1600 Lumen (1080p). I must tell you the truth that at the time of my previous posting i was displaying on a wall painted with just regular white paint from home depot. Since then I've invested my money into ScreenGoo paint system which cost me $280 for the kit. Image quality improved significantly, the paint itself it's very very tricky thing to apply 100%. I had to purchase additional 500ml of paint for $80 (total around $360) coz i screwed it up. The paint has like very little particles (tiny diamonds like) and that way your whites reflect better but blacks stay black. It is very difficult to use a roller and end up with no marks or paint it evenly everywhere.

If anyone of you is reading this now and is thinking of investing your money into ScreenGoo system I have a few tips for you, so just ask.:)

I've said it before and I will say it again...

Painting a wall is a very significant investment in time and may still produce results which are so-so if not done perfectly.

While buying a Carada or similar screen can be expensive, there are options out there that for $300 can land you a 100" or so fixed frame screen of pretty solid quality that can be cleaned and more importantly broken down if you move or have a situation where the screen is not in the best location.

http://www.htdepot.com/Focupix_Widescreen_Fixed_Frame_Screen_105_p/ff169lt-100gy.htm

Not the best in the world, but certainly better than a typical white wall, and similar in price to the Goo which was purchased above... but with 1/100th the hassle.
