Paint towers?

I'm considering picking up the Polk R50's for $180 shipped. The downside is they only have them in Cherry at that price. So, I'm curious about painting these to black on my own.

I was thinking I could sand 'em down and just hit them with some coats of paint and that should cover it.

Maybe it's not worth it?

Oh MAN,please tell me your kidding,you are kidding right?

Remember that the factory finish is veneer not solid wood,most veneer is very thin,too thin to give the wood a proper sanding,unless you can sand out most of the old finish the new finish will not hold.

Ive seen MANY home made paint jobs on speakers & not once have i seen it turn out looking worth a damm,even if you have a pro paint sprayer & the ability to apply several uniform coats of laquer the finish will be very soft & not at all durrable,one little nick will show up across the room.

On top of that home made paint job speakers become valueless the second you do an art project on them.

No, I wasn't kidding at all. But, I forgot about it being veneer. I was thinking cherry wood with a basic gloss.

I wouldn't want to try to tackle that project.

I just got these in the mail and was a little leary about the cherry also but they actually dont look that bad at all. And from the front the speaker grill covers almost the entire speaker so they look black. Hope this helps.
